NFL Draft 2012

I was hoping Tank Carder would have ended up a Bear. He could be an excellent fit and immediate starter for the Bills.

I really like what the Bills have done in this draft. Gilmore a Brooks are a pair of excellent CBs that could both start for them, Glenn and Sanders fill needs on the O Line at great value. Carder and Bradham are going to get on the field as well. It’s the type of draft that addresses needs with great value.

Oops, my draft tracker didn’t update.

Ryan Miller’s a great get for the Brownies. Another guy I wanted for the Bears…this is getting frustrating.

They aren’t even announcing the picks on NFL network anymore.

6’7 guard sounds like a tackle that can’t use his feet…

As opposed to rookie Kirk Cousins, who figures to step right in and play well?

Grossman’s nobody’s idea of a winning starter, but he’s about as good as the average NFL backup. His main value lies in that he been in Shanahan’s system for three years and doesn’t need much practice time. That allows your rookie starter to get almost all the work. That is, unless you’re also trying to develop a second QB simultaneously.
Look, the obvious plan here is to develop him and then flip him for a higher pick in a couple years; the problem is that neither Shanahan has any reputation for developing QBs (except in their own minds), and the roster has other needs.

Yeah, it’s annoying, but not as annoying as ESPN spending the entirety of Day 3 talking about the first 10 picks of the first round and interviewing coaches and beat reporters at team facilities with nothing happening.

What’s with the Packers obsession with DBs who have long braids?

Yup, the plan is to develop Cousins ala Kolb, and with RG3 probably taking hits and missing time like Vick the odds are pretty good that Cousins will get some reps and some tape out there. The problem is 2-fold. Cousins has serious accuracy issues when throwing to the edge and the Redskins have gaping holes elsewhere and a dearth of draft picks. Developing a backup QB with the intent to flip him is a luxury item, the Redskins are starving right now, they can’t afford to be buying pretty baubles when they can barely put food on the plate.

Damn, the Bengals are killing it this draft.

I was just about to mention a handful of players still on the board that the Bears could target in round 6 and I’ll be damned, they all started coming off the board. Love Iloka to the Bengals and Criner to the Raiders.

Alfonso Denard is still on the board because of character issues and McNutt looks good, but the Bears already took a big slow WR. Steeter is still out there which is a surprise because around the Combine some people had him as a possible 1st round guy. Luke Nix might be the top OL candidate for them right now, see if he lasts.

Here’s an interesting nugget from Bears beat reports Brad Biggs.

So that explains that.

So far today, the Saints have picked Nick Toons, WR, Wisconisn, and Corey White, CB, Samford.

Toons is a big receiver, NFL.com says he may be a Meachum replacement, but without Meachum’s speed. Hmmm. I guess he’ll compete with Arrington for the #4 receiver spot, behind Colston, Henderson, and Moore.

White projects as an NFL safety, said to be good in run defense.

Nick Toon. Son of Al Toon. No “S”. Should be a nice possession receiver but he’ll have trouble getting open in man coverage, against zone he has a knack for finding holes and is good on the sidelines.

Getting close to the Bears pick. Really hoping for Luke Nix here, would be the right move, he should be able to play right away over Chris Williams and move Williams to the swing OT.

Emery has proven to be much more willing to roll the dice on character than Angelo ever was, which could put Denard in play here. If not Denard, then Minnifield is a solid choice if they insist on reloading on defense.

Son of a bitch…trying to be so fucking cute. I know CB was a need but this guy is a nobody. Save that for round 7.

Also his name is Frey…not good for us ASoIaF/GoT fans.

Just got back home. All three picks today for the 49ers are on my board at various places. Looney sounds like an upgrade from Rachal/Snyder, but will have to beat out current guards on the roster. Darius Fleming was one of the last guys on my board, but I think he fits what the 49ers do on defense. He’ll be a special-teamer and backup for now. Trent Robinson I had valued much higher than the other two, but was picked later, might end up a CB. I like what I see, although nothing to holler about.

The ghost of Al Davis picked a guy in the 6th Round that NFL.com doesn’t have a score for. Here is Christo Bilukidi’s player page, at least there’s a picture.

Last year the Bengals seemed to pick all “my guys” and they’re doing it again this year. Prater, Iloka, and Marvin Jones? crazy value.

The Eagles got Boykin! This is surreal.

They also drafted two guys named Cox and McNutt. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle reading the blogs anymore.

Well the Lions did go with a DB swarm, mostly small fast guys, which makes sense because the tall fast guys aren’t still there in the 3rd+ rounds.

First “Looney” and now “Slowey” together with “you potty” what kind of offensive line do we have?

I’ve missed almost all of the draft today, so I haven’t had any time to digest anything yet. But I will mention that one of the first things I checked on was where Jared Crick went and it pisses me off to no end that he fell all the way to the Fourth Round (126) and the Packers didn’t have the chance to move up and get him because they moved up twice to get second round picks. Since the Packers are a Super Bowl contender, I don’t necessarily have a problem trading up to get guys who you think will have an immediate impact to help you, but giving up those draft picks to do it can really cost you when guys like Crick (or Ronnell Lewis, or Lamar Miller, or Brandon Boykin) fall.

And, very quickly, guys I want the Packers to draft who are left:

Chris Polk
Aaron Henry
Dale Moss
BJ Coleman
David Molk
Fozzy Whittacker

Baylor’s Robert Griffin fell all the way to pick 203. I did not see that coming.
