I don’t see any reason to value his opinion as much as Mel Kiper, Mike Mayock, etc.
Being a great player 40 years ago does not make one a skilled talent evaluator; it’s a completely different skillset. See the Charlotte Bobcats for more information on this.
AFAICT, Brown has never put in time developing scouting skills, etc., and usually likes guys or doesn’t depending on whether he knows them personally.
Unconfirmed but it’s looking like the Browns paid a third rnd pick to move up. Not thrilled but Welcome to Cleveland Trent Richardson.
Newest report, a 4th, 5th and 7th.
Exactly so, and the thing of it is, if the defense is OK and Richardson is a stud, they could win 5-7 games even with a bad QB; and if they don’t have extra picks next year, they may be sitting at 8 or 10 and not be able to take the best QB.
I tend to agree but there is a counter argument. Richardson ~should~ provide the greatest and most immediate impact of any offensive player (left) in the draft. I don’t hate the pick and I’m glad we didn’t give up a 3rd round pick, we have extra low round picks this year and we parted with some. I just wonder how much the Browns got fished on them even needing to trade up in the first place.
I’m confused. Can anyone explain why that was necessary? Were they afraid someone else was going to make that trade with Minnesota and take Richardson? I know the Vikes have been shopping around, but I don’t see why the Browns needed to move up.
Most likely. There was talk of several other teams being interested in Richardson. If someone like, say, Tampa jumped ahead of them, Cleveland would be left holding the bag.
Yay almost to the fun part. Who are we going to get to see in the sad room, sliding down, down down. Of course it’s no longer so many millions lost per slot, but still a kick in the nuts to pride.
There were rumors about the Bucs and Vikes being in negotiations for the pick but I think it was mostly stirred up by the Vikes GM. I think the Browns probably gave away picks for nothing. But I guess the fact that the Vikes could drop to 5 and still get Kahlil means there was no downside and they wouldn’t have to take that much, so maybe a deal would’ve happened.
Perhaps, but I’m far more comfortable with Colt McCoy’s ability to hand off than I am with him actually throwing the ball. Advantage Running Back.
I hope, I really really hope someone other than us was making the Vikings a credible offer for the pick. Cause otherwise we just got played.
Hey, Trent Richardson could make the Brown’s offense one dimensional.
Browns board in full meltdown, which is funny already. I don’t think most fanbases freak out about giving away 4th round and later picks but it’s full blown FIRE EVERYONE!!! mode. I think most fanbases would be mostly excited that they’ll get the guy they wanted.
Should I secretly hope they take Tannehill so that heads explode?
Edit: Actually, originally ESPN said it’d be a “third pick” rather than “three picks” so people were flipping out when they thought it was the third rounder. Not so upset about 4+5+7 sounds like.
I hope the 4th and 5ths are the late compensatory picks, then I don’t really care at all. Probably worth it, since Richardson gives us a chance of losing game 20 to 13 instead of the 13 to 3 Claiborne gets us. Slightly more exciting.
