The Bills pull the surprise of the round so far. That’s a nervous feeling for me.
Denver traded up and got Cutler. I really feel like that guy is a combine/workout phenom. Was this the Broncos’ biggest need?

True.
He does have that history. Leinart will do well in Arizona and he gets to ride pine behind Warner for a time to get up to speed. Green has had some skill at drafting Defense in later rounds. The run game is going to be a concern, maybe he can fix it later in the draft or after june 1 cuts.
Just glad he did not have Young fall to 10.
Well, the Broncos needed to address the quarterback future and this was a good way to address it. Cutler gets to go into a situation in which he is set up to succeed.
Does anyone want to give the Lions their late first round draft picks for some candy corn or some circus peanuts?
Holy shit…the Tigers are up 9 to 0 in the third?
Um…go Pistons?
Eager to see what the Broncos gave up for that pick. Also, you have to imagine the Packers are SOL in regards to trading Walker. Though with Denver bypassing Chad Jackson by trading up you have to guess that they’ve increased their need. Not sure what they’d possible offer to get him though.
…just reported, the Rams get the Broncos 1st and 3rd rounders. Not too bad a deal for the Broncos, seems like it’d have been worth more to move up 5 spots.
Cleveland on the clock. Has to be a DT, right? Bunkley or Ngata, I’d guess Ngata due to Crennel’s scheme.
Baltimore probably takes a DT as well, who ever the Browns don’t take.
The Eagles are absolutely frothing at the possibility of landing Chad Jackson I’d imagine. Still, the experts say they still target a LB there…nuts I say.
scratches head
Not sold on Edge I take it?
The Eagles rush defense was abysmal after Jeremiah Trotter went out. They NEED something to stop the run, whether it’s a linebacker, defensive tackle, or elephant gun.
Nice, the Browns did to the Ravens what we did to the Browns a couple years ago. Talked them into moving up one spot for a good price because they were convinced they’d take the one the other wanted.
That was an odd move.
I thought for sure we were gonna take Ngata.
Oh, Berman just said we picked up an additional 6th round pick in exchange. Hurrah. Very questionable.
Didn’t the commissioner used to make a separate trip to the podium to announce trades? When he announced Denver’s selection of Jay Cutler, he mentioned the fact that the pick had been acquired from St. Louis as almost an afterthought.
Um. Ernie Sims has, according to some leauge doctors, suffered about 5 concussions in his college career.
He did show up, bulked up and looking disgustingly ripped, though.
Go Lions!
You’ve got to assume this meant that the Browns never wanted Ngata to begin with and prefer Bunkley. Basically they made the Ravens patsies and bled them a pick without losing anything. If there’s any legs to this Ngata being lazy story you shouldn’t be too worried.
It’s starting to look more and more possible that Holmes slides to the Bears…
Now I’m wondering which high-ranked prospect will fall to the 49ers at 22.
Bush is going to change the way NFL fans regard the Saints. People are going to want to watch us. Problem is, this could be the worst pick in Saints history as I think it moves us up a couple of notches in increasing the chances of our moving to LA. Regardless, I love it, and think the guy can handle split carres/split backfields with Deuce until they have a chance to move the guy.
I’m not sure I agree with this. You’ve had both Ricky and Deuce, both who were extremely exciting and supremely productive. Adding Bush is going to be a media bonanza no doubt, but the Saints reason for lack of respectability is it’s legacy of comically bad QB play.
Aaron Brooks, Bobby Hebert, Jeff Blake, Heath Shuler, the Billy Joes. Since Manning you haven’t had a passer worth his salt. Only the Bears have been more hapless at the QB position.
Adding Brees (and being proactive in doing so, allowing themselves to take Bush without caveat) was the move that made the Saints the promising teams they are right now. Suppose Bush slid to you and you had been staking this season on Young or Leinart?
We’d be screwed, and I agree Brees will be the difference maker for this team, a much bigger upgrade over Brooks than Bush vs. Deuce. But Bush is a Vick type player, where even if he isn’t a significant difference maker in games won (I think Schaub can win at least as many as Vick), he’s a player that people will want to watch. I garuntee that even if we win just 4-6 games, we get more primetime games scheduled next year.
I can see the Broncos needing to pick up a QB. I’m just surprised they picked one up in the first round. Shanahan seems to really love trading picks, doesn’t he?
OK…I’m practically giddy right now!
Three of the teams with need at WR have bypassed it. I thought either the Ravens, Eagles or Broncos would be targeting Chad Jackson.
Miami or Minnesota will both have to take a long look at WR, one will likely tab Chad Jackson but both have needs on defense they were expected to address, San Diego and Kansas City both would like a WR but neither can afford to pass on a CB. TB will probably be looking to bolster its WR core, but it’s not inconceivable that Holmes gets past those teams with Jackson unexpectedly still on the board.
I’m still not 100% on Walker not playing for GB this year. Talk is cheap and we’ve all been through it before. Did you listen to the interview with William Henderson right after Hawk was taken? I think the players for the most part want Walker to come back. Walker obviously wants to play, and if he’s any sort of quality person his teammates should have his ear to some degree.
He’s just too good a talent to let go for some late round picks. Even a second round alone isn’t worth it to the Packers to trade him. With their finances this year, I can see Thompson telling Walker to just sit home and cash the checks. Somebody at some point has to draw a line.
That said, I expect a trade announcement soon since it would make no sense and this draft is just setting us all up for UFO’s attacking from left field. Cite? The first 15 picks. This is a nutty year.
sorry Run defense. sigh
Looking forward:
Miami - Winston Justice, seems that’s their greatest need position right now. Jackson’s a talent but they are pretty solid at WR and Saban is a traditional guy. Protecting Culpepper should be a priority.
Minnesota - They are said to be looking at defense here, probably a CB or LB. I’m thinking Chad Greenway will be the guy.
Dallas - They need a Safety and will take one of those tweener DBs like Jimmy Williams or Jason Allen. I’m going with Jimmy Williams here.
San Diego - They are in dire need of a CB and the run is getting underway, but Jackson is too good to pass on here. Jackson’s the move.
Kansas City - They too need a DB and they’ll take the best available. Joseph or Youboty probably. I think Youboty.
While typing this post the Dolphins made me look dumb by taking Jason Allen. I’m OK with that since Justice might be the guy who prevent the 49ers from taking Holmes before the Bears pick. Woot.
