Ken Dorsey couldn’t throw a football through a wet piece of tissue paper. Leinart has an arm.
And that’s another thing: what is all this talk about “arm strength” and “not being able to make NFL throws?” Just how many 40+ yard passes really get attempted in the typical NFL game? With the West Coast offense, it’s all short little passes and the occasional deeper throw, but it’s not like you need an 80-yard arm to play QB in the NFL.
As a Bears fan I feel really good about that Hawk pick. Not that I don’t think he’ll be solid, but he’s no Urlacher and the prospect of Vernon Davis in GB scared the shit out of me. I felt like the scenario I described earlier with the Pack taking Davis and adding an LB with the fruits of the Walker trade would have been a more productive move.
Rest assured the Pack will fuck it up, that’s what I always say.
I think it’s just used as a benchmark. If a QB can get the ball to the reciever on a deep out pattern with an NFL corner covering him, then yeah, he’s got a beefy arm.
A qb high in the draft two years in a row? no in Salary cap world they do not. Being in the same conference as my Cards… I wish they would… But if wishes were horses we weould all be up to our necks in horsecrap by now.
Um, moron. Ever hear of Alex Smith? Realize he had nobody to throw the ball to?
Jesus I’m an idiot. :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:
It’s not about the 40 yard throws. It’s about the 10 yard out route into tight coverage. Those frozen ropes are the difference between success in the NFL and the Pac-10. Gotta move the chains against the blitz.
Vernon Davis to the 49ers, the 3rd closest thing to a sure thing in this draft. Alex Smith has to feel very good about that pick and I’m thrilled he’s not in my division.
Need your beer break now?
I love how they show bad tackling in college to show how explosive a runner people are. Love it.
Besides, you heard that Alex Smith had small hands and couldn’t grip the ball properly, right? If that were truth, then I could see them taking Leinart and putting themselves into salary cap purgatory for a long while (again).
Carp he is in my Division. Oh well, three left to we go… Oakland could grab a QB here leaving both DT’s or Huff or thr Cards. (I would even tolerate Cutler)
Should also keep in mind that a 10 or 15 yard out route IS a 35 or 40 yard pass once you take the lateral distance into account.
I’m stuck with no laptop at the moment so I’m just watching the draft and skipping over the “run upstairs to post on the boards” phase, but I’ll check in at the end of the first round and other random times, for sure. It’s been pretty chalk so far after the Bush switcheroo, IMO - for all that there were valid arguments for other players, this is what was expected. Back to the TV!
It’s getting close to the Lions. Please, let Leinart fall to us so we can field requests.
If there is a god, he’s got to make this happen. I don’t see it happening, I’m just venting. Omniscent, you really have a boner for Vernon Davis, don’t you? What was it? The stats? The ability? Something you can’t place your finger on?
After watching the Raiders get gashed on the ground all season last year and seeing the husk of a player that Sapp has become, if the Raiders take anyone beside one of the top 2 DTs they are insane. Yeah, they are weak at QB and Leinart has potential, but I think they need a DT more than anything.
…and the pick is: Michael Huff!
Awful pick. You can make a decent argument that he’s the best player available but it’s at a very very deep position in this draft. Their dire need at DT makes this one look like a bad pick. Those teams hoping a DT falls to them have to be thrilled right now.
Damn I can see Buffalo and Detroit Drafting Defense now… Unless someone like the Vikes try and trade up for a QB before the Cards get there.
Come on someone trade up!
Buffalo sports talk radio is going nuts now. They want to take Leinart.
Now they don’t want to take him. They now want Winston Justice and to trade the pick.
Um, yes! All of that. His measurables are totally insane. In Senior Bowl workouts and Skills competitions has was a total monster and caught everything fired at him. He played heads up against Shawn Merriman 2 years ago in college.
He’s like Gates and Gonzales, except with superior college experience and athlietic ability to make those guys blush. He’s not some tweener like Winslow or Sharpe, he’s the prototype guy.
The Lions have had big interest in getting people of good mental capacity and good people. If that’s the case, the Lions take Ngata, no questions asked.
