As a Browns’ fan I acknowledge that I need a lot of psychological help, and that I have a deep and abiding hatred for each of the AFC playoff teams other than the Texans. My order of preference is:
Detroit
New Orleans
San Francisco
Houston
Atlanta
Green Bay
NY Giants
The Taliban
(tie) Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, New England
I’m a Steelers fan, and I’ll be (begrudging) rooting for the Bengals to make it to the AFC championship, as long as the Steelers are also there. Ok…rooting is the wrong word. I can’t root for them…the thought makes me sick. I’ll say, I’ll begrudgingly acknowledge that a Bengals/Steelers AFC championship is in my best interest. The ONLY reason for this is that I have AFC Championship tickets in Pittsburgh, and I only get to go if they’re playing the Bengals (Darn that tiebreaker!)
However, I have absolutely NO desire to see the Bengals win anything. And, in fact, if they get embarrassed and bounced this week, I’d have a little smile, even though I’d have to send the AFC Championship tickets back and get my refund.
As for if the Steelers don’t win it, who do I want to see win it? Probably Detroit. They’ve had such a rotten run that it would be pretty cool to see them win it all. I hate Atlanta (leftover feelings from the Braves/Pirates NLCS deal 20 years ago), and while I generally like GB, I don’t want a repeat since I’m stinging a bit from last year’s Super Bowl. After Detroit, I’d probably rather see New Orleans or Houston take it. I despise Baltimore, Cinci, and New England. I’d be OK if Houston went all the way, though that’s pretty unlikely.
As a Pittsburgh native, I don’t understand the question. Every week, I root for there to be one win and 32 losses in the NFL, with the Pittsburgh opponent losing twice.
Most NFC teams only inspire a small amount of stomach bile, so I guess one of them would have to win. If the Ravens won, I’d literally get sick to my stomach. I actually get a little ill just seeing a Ravens jersey at the mall or something. I want to put it on a baby just so I can punch it.
If you really force me to pick an AFC team to win it all, I guess it’d have to be…no, I can’t. I really can’t. They’re all gross. Christ, what a terrible proposition.
As an Indianapolis resident, I’m rooting for the two teams with the richest, most well-travelling fans to advance to the Super Bowl. For well-travelling, I don’t think it’d get much better than a repeat of last year’s Packers v. Steelers matchup.
I second wishing that SD were still an option, but if my beloved Steelers can’t play, I’ll admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the Bengals, just so we’ll have some damn competition that isn’t the Ravens.
No way those teams will outscore a 15-1 team at home. Atlanta is overrated and we all saw what the Packers did to them on their home turf. SF simply doesn’t have the offense to outscore the Pack. Only NO worries me.
As a Broncos fan it is probably not a bad idea to have a couple of back-up teams to root for through the end of the season.
Not the Steelers for sure. If anybody in the NFL needs to get Tebowed on national TV it is Big Ben.
I guess I’d root for the Packers just because they play killer football.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the Lions go either. To go from 0-16 to Super Bowl champs would be quite a story. Maybe they play a little dirty and should cut it out, yah, but football is a rough game, and anyway what do you expect from a boy named Suh?
I absolutely do. GB should be terrified of us, actually. And it’s not about our offense outscoring Green Bay; I wish people would stop that. Our MO all season has been defense. I think our defense is fully capable of stopping them, especially in rough weather. We’re more of a bad weather-type team than the Packers.
It could be a very interesting game. Personally, I think the 49ers defense against the pass can be exploited, as Romo (345 yards, 2 td’s, 0 ints), Vick (416 yards, 2 td’s, 1 int), and Stafford (293 yards, 2 td’s, 0 ints) showed. Since Rodgers is better at protecting the ball, while still rolling up the yards and TD’s, I think that the Packers match up pretty well against the 49ers. It’s by no means a done deal (as the Chiefs showed) that Rodgers and his WR will always shine, but it will be interesting game to watch.
If it all works out, maybe we could do one of those governor bets. Maybe some cheese curds vs Rice A Roni. We will see.
