I don’t know who’s going to win, but I think it’s time for NE to be in a Super Bowl that’s decided by more than 4 points.
Nope, has nothing to do with that, though I do hate them with a white-hot passion since Deflategate, the bullshit arguments of pretty much their entire fan base, and the transparent guilt of their ‘golden boy.’
Anyway, you made me check…it was in the Steelers’ march thread, and I mixed Hamlet up with ElvisL1ves.
I should kill you for that.
So, you want them to lose?
Their SB win over the eagles wasn’t really a 3 pt win. The eagles scored that TD in garbage time and the game was no longer in reach
Nonsense. The game was tied at 14 going into the 4th quarter. The Pats scored 10 unanswered points, but the Eagles started a drive down by 10 with 5:40 left. They scored a touchdown, but thanks to Reid’s abysmal clock management the drive took almost 4 minutes and they scored with 1:48 left on the clock. They tried an onside kick but didn’t recover it, the Pats ran 3 running plays to force them to use their timeouts, punted, and the Eagles got the ball back at their own 4 with 46 seconds left.
Clearly the Eagles didn’t handle the clock well, which Andy Reid has been notorious for, but down by 10 with over 5 minutes left is absolutely NOT “garbage time”.
I will watch it again later but for some reason I thought the pats pulled away and the eagles cut it to 24-21 with 40 something seconds left
What I said above is what happened. It was 1:48, not 40 seconds, but there’s no way that’s garbage time. If they Eagles had recovered the onside kick they could have tied or won. I don’t think anyone on either sideline relaxed until McNabb threw an interception with 20 seconds left.
If you can cut the lead to 3 points with 46 seconds left and possession, then by definition it’s not garbage time.
You’ve made my (admittedly, minor and mostly useless) point for me. If you didn’t have such a hate-on going, a moment of thought (or checking) would have shown you how utterly wrong you were. Hamlet and Elvis could not be further apart, and you were thinking of the wrong thread. But you just had to get that dig in on Pats fans, so…
Why am I even arguing about this??
It wasn’t clock management. The Pats, mainly Bruschi, had been hitting McNabb so hard that he couldn’t breathe. The slowness of the drive was because his huddles were slow and he had to walk up to the line.
Regardless of the reasons - certainly Reid has utilized odd clock management strategies against the Pats at other times - up by 10, opponent has the ball with 5:40 left is not garbage time.
So, as a New Englander who appreciates competent, sane, political leadership, it’s a tough Super Bowl to root for, eh?
With that, and my appreciation for a focus on teams rather than larger-than-life individuals, and exciting comeback stories, I’ve come up with my wish for the Super Bowl: Brady gets a career-ending injury in the first series. Garoppolo comes in and throws two interceptions, followed by three touchdowns and running in the wining TD with 0:16 left. Then, receiving the trophy from Goodell, he makes a joke about how much more uncomfortable Goodell would be handing the trophy to the starting QB, and lets the remark sit there while Goodell tries to keep smiling and look not-insulted.
Following with a public remark from Garoppolo about how if any of his teammates don’t feel welcome at the current White House because of their skin color or anything else, as QB, he’s standing with his teammates.
Hey, we can all have our fantasies, right? (I mean, I left out the part about making snow angels in the end zone, just to keep it within the bounds of possibility)
And here we go for Super Sunday. I hope it’ll be a good game. I’m rooting for the Falcons, I think they CAN win, but I’m picking Pats by 10. If that happens, we still get a consolation of watching deflategate end with Godell handing over the SB trophy to Brady.
Atlanta has to find a way to pick Brady, to cause fumbles. Brady passed to NINE different receivers in the AFC Championship. Nine! Hoping that Ryan’s weapons are ready.
Since there will be a lot of people watching the superbowl that didn’t watch the playoffs, I went ahead and created Super Bowl 51 thread. And a commercials thread.
Zero movement in the line. Is that normal?
I guess technically I was correct, but it doesn’t feel that way.
Two reasons why the Atlana coach is the stupidest coach in NFL history
-
3rd and 1…coach calls a pass play and has matt step back to throw which led to the fumble when they was up 28-12
-
Falcons up 28-20 in FG range and on 2nd down the dickhead has matt step back and throw again instead of running to drain more clock and stay in FG range to go up 31-20 with 4 mins left
Unbelievable
I think the 3 and short passing play was definitely questionable but I basically agree with the aggressive philosophy and trying to not be predictable. The defensive collapse was probably the more shocking outcome in that game. Atlanta had been able to stop the running game with Lagarett Blount as the RB, but the Pats started mixing it up in the backfield and I think that started to throw Atlanta off rhythm. Simultaneously, the Pats defense also stunted the Falcons running game. The running game won’t be talked about much but that’s really where the game started to change.
Not putting this on the defense. They gave the team a bonus 7 pts and held the Pats offense to 3 pts in the first half
The offense coach. Showed he is a shitty decision maker and will fail as a nfl coach
