NFL Predictions - Week 8 The Early Edition

Gazoo said:

Yep–the Steelers briefly go over .500. Verybriefly, I suspect.

Hmm, after reading the newest injury report, I’m going to have to switch that Steeler/Browns pick. Damn Brownies, I really wanted to pick them…too many injuries at key positions though.

Browns 9 at Steelers 17 (Tim Couch is certainly no Kurt Warner, and Doug Pederson is no Tim Couch.)

No, they could be one of the elite teams. Right now they’re third in their Division for crying out loud. They’re giving up nearly 22 points per game, are ranked 15th defensively, and are -5 in the takeaway:giveaway ratio.

Elite teams do not blow 17 point half-time leads at home. And Elite teams certainly do not lose to the Patsies.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the Colts are a great team. They just haven’t proved it to me yet this year, although I believe they will. That’s what I mean about asserting themselves this week.

Gazoo, we Redskins fans thank you once again for continuing to pick our opponents.

Eagles!

(Nothing else to say, but, wow, what a day.)

I’m with RT. Gazoo…you planning on picking Tennessee next week over the Redskins?

Anybody notice?

I did.

Next week at Tampa will be a helluva test.

Wonder what The Great Gazoo will have to say about that game?

OK Vike fans…

You have to admit it now…(it was starting to show last week) You are getting enthusiastic about this and there are dreams of sugar plums in Denny’s mind (Well maybe not sugar plums but definitely HO-HO’s) and the LOMBARDI Trophy in the minds of Vike fans.

Stay strong and start forming support groups now!

Wow, some really good games and surprises this week.

-Hats to off to Corey Dillon who broke Payton’s single game rushing record by piling up 278 yds. on the ground against a Bronco team that was limiting opponents to under 70 per game going into Sunday. Dillon now owns the Rookie Single Game Record and the the Single Game record. Where would this guy be if he played for a good team?

-Bengals over Broncos? Benglas had over 400 total yards on the ground. I still can’t believe it happened.

-Chiefs not only won, they dominated from the beginning of the game and never let up. Fantasy Football players are scrambling like mad to replace Warner. Faulk may also miss some time.

-For those who asked, I’m probably picking the Titans (depending on Eddie George’s injury), the Vikings, and at this point the Bengals next week.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

I love you, Gazoo!

GO CHIEFS!!! And who in the world is Bud Carlson?

Gazoo… where do you find your info… i.e. injured lists, stuff like that? I am really interested in knowing how long Darrell Green will be out. Tre Johnson is gone for the year I think?

Do any other Washington fans (or the general public) think they paid way too much for Sanders?

Monday Night Football… Gazoo, I would go with the Titans again, if I were you…

(0-6 against the Skins after Monday?)

JustAnotherGuy - The Sporting News has really good, up to date information. If you play fantasy leagues at all, click on the fantasy link at the top. From here you can get all the latest news and rumors for offensive players. You can even customize it to automatically bring up information on the players on your fantasy squad.

Also, ESPN is pretty good. From the main page click on the NFL link on the left hand side. They keep a rolling injury list (link on the upper left hand side) and also the “infirmary report” that shows players who were injured during the weekend’s games.

For all the Vikings fans – consider yourself officially cursed. From Tom Jackson at ESPN (who has the Vikings ranked #1 in the league now):

I would hardly consider that a curse…

…and Ding Dongs, and Prime Rib, and Old Country Buffet, and the Neverending Pasta Bowl at Olive Garden…

But getting our hopes up? Nah. We’re still cool, calm and stoic.

But, if the Vikes stay healthy…well, you never know…

Rysdad, you are correct in saying that if the Vikes stay injury -free, you never know what will happen.
Gazoo, I can’t wait for week 9’s forecast.

Wow, what a game last night. I can’t believe the 'phins blew a lead like that. I can’t believe I stayed up and watched it. Must get coffee.

imthjckaz - I was looking at next week’s schedule last night. I’m not looking forward to trying to pick those games. Lots of games that can go either way which isn’t going to make it easy for me to get out of this 9-5 slump.

Gazoo -

It’s looking like Eddie George may not be playing next Monday night…does that change yer early pick of the Titans? (GO SKINS!!!)

Also - FYI for JustAnotherGuy. Darryl Green is out 4 weeks or so. He’s projected to be back for the St. Louis game after the bye week. (Thank Goddess…) Tre is out for the YEAR. If this offensive line loses anyone else, I think I’m gonna cry.

And good LORD yes, we paid too much for Sanders. He gets beat every game. He hasn’t done real well on punt returns…I honestly think they’d be better off leaving those to Thrash. Sunday was a fairly good game for Deion, but it was his FIRST ONE. In Week 8. This is not a $35 million player. Or whatever Danny paid.

Hmmm, from what I read at ESPN and Sports Illustrated, it sounds like there’s a good chance Eddie George will indeed play. We’ll have to wait and see. I really would like to correctly predict another Redskins game sometime this season.

Hi everyone!

Sorry, I would’ve posted earlier about the Rmas/Chiefs game, but the entire population of the city of St Louis has sore asses from the kicking they received on Sunday.

The same thing happened last year too, the Rams are undefeated, I go to Kentucky and watch the game while I’m down there, then the Rams lose an away game to a team from the other conference.

Hey Gazoo, if history holds up, then the Rams will lose next week also, because I am once again going to Kentucky and will have to watch the game from there. (Same thing as last year’s Titans/Lions - back-to-back losses while I was on back-to-back weekend trips in Kentucky.)

Speaking of history…

Flash back to 1998 when the Vikes went 15-1 in the regular season. Which team handed them their only loss? Tampa Bay. What was the Vikes’ record at the time? 7-0…same as this year. What was Tampa’s record? 3-4…same as this year.

Hm.

I wouldn’t wager the farm on the Vikes this weekend.

PS- I’m leaving tomorrow for, get this, Tampa. My son and I are going to play in the sun for a few days. I’m not bringing the laptop, so I won’t get to see Gazoo’s predictions until I get back Sunday evening. Bummer.

While I’m there, though, I’m going to voodooize the Buc’s training facility. Anyone got a spare black cat’s knee bone or a monkey’s paw?
