NFL Week 1

It was all still speculation until the MRI and other tests were completed today, followed by the team press conference.

Regardless, it’s now official.

Fuck. :frowning:

Well, the Bradyless Patriots should be a far easier game for the Cardinals on Dec. 21.

Also, Washington looked pathetic. I’m feeling a bit better about the game at Washington in 2 weeks. I don’t think any NFL team wants** to play a game at Washington, but the Redskins could be having a Jim Zorn meltdown similar to their Steve Spurrier year.

The Cards should have an easy win against Miami at home next week, then the trip to Washington and then to the Jets. I’m not sure I like our chances against the Jets on the road, but I"ll take 3-1 to start the season.

If St. Louis, Seattle, and SF play as bad as they did in week 1, then the Cardinals should easily win the NFC West.

Forget the Patriots, what about all the fantasy football players across the country that just saw their number one pick make it through all of 15 minutes of the season? who weeps for them?

Come on, this is the Patriots we’re talking about. This will inevitably turn out to be some elaborate ploy by Belichick to gain an advantage. I bet they limp along for the rest of the season, just squeaking into the post-season. And every game, they wheel Brady out to the sidelines in a full body cast. And then, just as they’re about to take the field in the first playoff game – WHAM, they hit the cast with a mighty hammer and it shatters revealing a perfectly health Tom Brady already dressed in his uniform! Yeah, that’s it!

They should have done like I did and take Drew Brees!

Ram Fan here…either Philly is really good or the Rams really stink,I’m afraid we really stink.
No secondary at all,we are gonna get killed all year with 20 yard+ passes.

Hell, they looked worse than the lions.

KC Chiefs fan here and when Brady went down, my first thought was: The Chiefs have a chance!!! After Cassel threw that 50 yard pass to Moss on 3rd down from his own end zone, I thought: Nope, we’re in trouble.

While the Pats did win the game, I don’t think beating the Chiefs by 7 points was much consolation to NE fans. And hey, the Chiefs QB also went out with an injury too…where’s the love for Brodie Croyle!!! Interestingly, the Chiefs will probably do better with back up Damon Huard…who used to back up…TOM BRADY!!!

I am really looking forward to watching Minnesota tonight, will be interesting to see how they do with the changes they’ve made.

Chargers season-ticket holder here - ugh. No one should freak out in a good or a bad way about Week 1 NFL games, but you don’t like losing on a last-second TD pass either. Regardless, the Bolts will be fine (and have to be feeling better than the Pats or Colts are feeling right about now).

By the way, did you see who scored that winning touchdown for the Panthers? Apparently, it was Rosario Dawson.

Yeah, I heard/saw that live. Pretty embarassing. The flub, I mean, not the Chargers’ loss.

I saw that too! I thought, “Wow, there is also an actress named Rosario Dawson…” Then I saw the player’s actual name… :smack:

The 'Skins didn’t look good, for sure, but I think “pathetic” is an overstatement at this point.

Brandon Jacobs had his way with them on the Giants’ first drive, but they made some defensive adjustments (and the Giants made some questionable playcalling decisions), and the Giants didn’t get into the end zone for the rest of the game. The Giants d-line crashed through Washington’s protection all game, but that’s what they do - remember the Super Bowl? It’s not a good sign for Washington, but being unable to block the (arguably) most dominant line in the league isn’t the end of the world.

Where Zorn fell down was on offensive adjustments. They never had enough time to throw deep, and they couldn’t run the ball up the middle, but they didn’t try anything else. Portis never tried the edges, and they didn’t go to screens to get the Giant’s defenders off-balance. That’s not good, but it’s not unusual for a rookie head coach. Give him a little time to learn that before you throw him under the bus.

Brees and McNabb are the two I had ranked just a step below the big two. I got McNabb in one league and he came through big time. I was also high on Phillip Rivers(though he was a tier below those mentioned above) and ended up with him in my main league, so far so good there too.

A dark day for all of New England, for sure. On the other hand, have you seen the Pats schedule this year? I could definitely see them going 10-6 and making the playoffs with Cassel starting. Unfortunately, Super Bowl hopes are probably a pipe dream at this point.

I am big on McNabb this year, Until He Gets Hurt Of Course! That said I have him in my biggest money league… and like you say, so far, so good.

I think Philip Rivers is a bum, but he’ll probably get some pretty good numbers on defenses keying off of LT. Not really impressed by him as a QB on the whole, though.

I hear that Gates guy is pretty decent too.

I’m surprised Airman Doors hasn’t mentioned it yet, but:

The Steelers looked REALLY good this week. Ben was at the top of his game, making quick reads, pinpoint passes with perfect timing. Hard to get much better. The O-line played very well, and Parker tore it up. Add to that an absolutely dominating performance by the defense (until everyone packed it in for the 4th quarter) and solid tackling on special teams.

If the Steelers play like that every week, they’ll win it all this year. Of course, that’s a very, very big IF.

Oh, but I did. I saved it for the thread that I started rather than hijack this one into another Steelers thread. But yeah, they did look great.

I expect Diogenes to be in here any second to congratulate the Packers on a fine win and to predict a long fruitful career for Aaron Rogers.

I take it that you haven’t been to The Pit.

Don’t talk to me right now, I am a Bengals fan. We got utterly owned, if anyone cared to notice.

I noticed.
Flacco looked about as good as he could have, considering. Maybe he’s the real deal. I would have dearly loved to have seen Boller out there now that we seem to have an O line that actually protects the QB. We would have scored 40 points.
