Yeah, he looked solid. Kind of started to wear down a bit in the fourth, it felt like, but for an opening day rookie performance? Rock solid.
Time expired while the play was still going on. No score. (is what the TV announcers said.)
Teams score after the clock expires all the time in football. If the rule is different for a safety the announcers should have said so.
If Tannehill was outside the end zone, and the force of the tackle carried him in, the correct call would indeed be no safety, down at the half yard line. And, I think, referees are typically inclined to err on the side of no safety if it’s not clear whether the QB was in or out of the end zone.
So nothing strange about this call (if it’s as described above). Box score says Tannehill down at the 1, which indicates that’s probably what happened.
Five or six more games.
Or look at it this way: If the Cowboys could have made just one of the four field goal trips to the red zone end up as a touchdown instead of a field goal, it wouldn’t have mattered what Williams did.
You suck, you lose. Romo, Dak, it just doesn’t matter
well if even we didn’t score a TD, atleast we have a QB who can move the chains and always have us in the redzone
Moving the chains, noble goal. Look at the bright side - Washington hasn’t played yet this week. Still a chance for some company in last place NFC East.
That was a pretty encouraging game for the Giants. Sterling Shepard looked very good, shifty and hard to cover, and if Victor Cruz proves to be anything close to his old self this should be one of the best units in the league. Eli looked pretty good. The running game worked shockingly well, including at the end of the game when Dallas knew what was coming. And the expensive free agents on defense, for one day at least, seemed to play up to their contracts. Oh, and Jason Pierre-Paul also was very effective; the Giants might have an actual pass rush this year.
Or, maybe it’s a failing that that they barely won against a team starting a 4th Round rookie in place of their injured QB. But Prescott looked good, I thought – not unstoppable by any means, but he didn’t make me think, “Man, the Cowboys are in trouble.” He looked like he belonged on the field.
That is a genius idea!
Do you really think it would have made a difference?
Sorry, but it would appear RG3 is still exactly the player that left Washington. Throws a beautiful deep ball, always has, but it’s all he’s got. He’s still too quick to give up on the pass and run, still refuses to run out of bounds, still has no idea how to read a defense, and he still can’t tell when a receiver is open, even if he’s WIDE FUCKING OPEN. It’s not like they were facing the '85 Bears. These are not the Eagles of old, they’re not even the Eagles he’d played against before.
I was hoping he would get his shit together in a new city, I really was, but he’s not learned a thing. Not that I can blame this loss entirely on RG3, but it’s crystal clear he is not part of the solution. I’ll be surprised if he makes it to mid-season still upright.
Being a Browns fan is just torture. The only way to avoid it is to not care. But they are awful on both sides of the ball. Painfully awful. Saw this comment on a Browns board and thought it was funny (and probably true). “Cleveland - putting the 0-16 in 2016.”
RG III to IR
being an Eagles fan, my thoughts were:
- Carson Wentz looked composed, fairly accurate, and like a promising QB.
- Peterson looked pretty good as a head coach, at least with clock management, getting plays in, and calling a decent game.
- They played the Browns, so it is hard to tell if either #1 or #2 are valid.
Not quite “the force of the tackle” when I look at the video. It looks more like 56 kind of wrangles the QB over the goal line before finishing the tackle. I guess it must be akin to “forward progress”, inasmuch as the QB was not trying to flee backward from the tackle.
Probably the best outcome for everyone.
For fucks sake. The only thing to look forward to this year was watching RG3 throw deep balls to Gordon/Coleman/Pryor. It’s the only thing that might’ve been even remotely watchable. Everything else was a complete dumpster fire. And that was taken away.
Damn, dude, that’s fucked up. It’s so hard being a Browns fan that it’s actually a little hard knowing a Browns fan.
Is RG3 done now? I’m assuming the Browns will draft a QB, and I don’t see anyone else giving him a shot to start. His injury concerns make him an unlikely backup as well.
He could be back by week 9 or 10 according to the reports. Looks like McCown will take over for now, barring a trade (which will be made more difficult because the Seahawks are reportedly looking for a vet backup for Russell Wilson).
