So what was that all about? How does a 9-2 team collapse like that on the most important game of their regular season?
The Patriots’ offense is awesome and the Jets’ Quarterback sucks? I think that’s the short answer.
Well McDaniels got fired. I’m sad. I liked having him around for the whacky antics, and for turning Orton and Lloyd into stars, and in general it’s nice to have unconventional coaches around the league.
Well, unfortunately (speaking as a Jets fan), the 9-2 part was very deceptive. The Patriots are the only team with a winning record that the Jets have actually beaten this year. Sure, they played the Ravens and Packers moderately close, but their schedule has been marshmallow soft so far.
Add to this that the Jets have been playing terribly for the last six or seven games (with the exception of beating the Bengals last week).
Week 6: Barely beat the Broncos.
Week 7: Bye.
Week 8: Shut out by the Packers.
Week 9: Last minute win over the Lions.
Week 10: Overtime win over the Browns.
Week 11: Last minute win over the Texans.
Week 12: Crushed the Bengals (who look like they’ve given up).
Week 13: Spanked by the Pats.
Hopefully, this painful ass whuppin’ will inspire them to make some desperately needed changes. The offense needs help bad. That kicker needs a firing. Squeaking out wins each week over terrible opponents won’t get you very far in the playoffs, Rex.
Was this the most over-hyped game of the year? All I heard on ESPN was The Game Of The Season!!!
And then the Jets are crushed. I wish I had stayed awake for it.
ESPN would never be guilty of overhyping an East coast game, especially if it is New York vs Boston.
As mentioned, the Jets weren’t really as good as their record (although the Patriots perhaps weren’t quite as good as their record, either, they were a lot closer to being a 9-2 team than the Jets), so it’s not quite such a big surprise.
I only watched it live, without even any rewinding, and haven’t looked at stats, so feel free to differ, but to me the big issues were that the Jets never really pressured Brady (other than the two sacks, he had as much time as he wanted, every time) and so were unable to stop the Pats offense, the Jets had a fair amount of dropped passes and minor confusions, Sanchez didn’t throw very well, the Jets never got enough of a running game going to overcome the previous two, and (related to those) the Patriots D never gave up any big (or even medium-sized) plays.
It was a shocking game. I couldn’t believe the Pats blew the Jets away like they did. I’m sure nobody expected that to happen I know I didn’t and I still even after halftime expect some kind of turn around from the Jets but nothing happened. I did love ever minute of it I always the Pats to win and the Jets to lose so for me it was the greatest game. But still many games to come for the Pats Both teams (jets and Pats) have to play the bears and fins and bills. And the Pats have to play the Packers and the Jets have to play Pittsburgh. So lets see what happens. Go Pats!!
Hey! An Alex Smith sighting!
He’s like that Ivory-Billed Woodpecker or something.
Next morning and I am still having trouble expressing how satisfying a win that was. Wiped the smirk right off of Rex Ryan’s face, it did. I suspect his ample belly is still roiling from all the crow he had to eat.
The Patriots looked like a championship-caliber team last night. If the defense can continue to improve, they have a legitimate shot to win it all.
(Not that I have any grudge at all with the guy, but Randy Moss must be :smack: himself every single day of the week right now).
Rex Ryan getting his yap shut by that beatdown was beautiful.
Rex Ryan wasn’t even on my Radar until he mouthed off in that reality show over the summer.
Now I actively root against him.
I agree that the networks routinely overhype anything to do with New York City or the Patriots. But in this particular case I think they had a valid point. This was a division game between two teams that were tied with the best records in the league. I think everyone was legitimately expecting a great game not this blowout.
Compare it to last Monday, where they were stuck trying to hype up a game between the 49ers and the Cardinals - “You can feel the excitement in the air as these two teams battle for third place in their division.”
