NFL Week 15

Are you going to admit you lied?

I was over at the Bizarro Straight Dope and DiogenesTheBeliever totally admitted he was wrong.

I didn’t lie, I just didn’t remember one mildly imprecatory post from like 6 years ago.

Are you going to call Airman a liar?

Did Airman recently claim to have perfect knowledge in the context of his posting history?

Just admit that you totally bullshitted your way through an argument here, blatantly made up a revisionist history and got called on it. No matter how you downplay it, your “mildly imprecatory post from like 6 years ago” directly contradicts your definitive claim of never badmouthing Favre. In layman’s terms, that’s called lying.

No, but neither did I.

I already congratulated you on being able to find a single, six year old post which contradicts my memory and the tone of my usual history on the subject. None of the rest of this is true.

What is wrong with you Dio? Why do so many threads you are in degenerate into you desperately trying to spin your comments. Either spend more time considering what you say or accept the fact that you will get called on your hyperbola and move on.

This is just a case of someone desperately trying to parse my posts to see if they can find some kind of literal, bullshit, “gotcha” contradiction. The fact is that I was false accused of having “change my stripes” on Favre when I was always complimentary.

You’re more persecuted by the SDMB lamestream than Sarah Palin!

I never said I was persecuted.

If you figure that you lose 10 yards per punt by avoiding him, how much better is it on average? It’s probably less massive than one might assume.

A few years ago, Football Outsiders looked at it and decided that on average it’s better to kick to Hester than to avoid him. The extra yardage of kicking to him more than compensated for his few long returns, and that was before considering the times that he fumbled the kick.

The main point though is that kicking to him is high-variance and kicking away is safe.

Just glancing at his stats for this season, when he doesn’t break off the long run, (or calls a fair catch) he ranges between 5-15 yards, averaging around 10. So unless you know you can get someone down there right away to force him to fair catch, I say don’t kick to him.

I think part of the issue is that many NFL punters aren’t terribly good at directional punting. The “coffin corner” punt is nearly a lost art. Thus, I think that many (most?) punters who tried to kick away from Hester (or DeSean Jackson) would end up with serious shanks more often than not.

Lied, or just grossly mistaken or forgetful? I’ll give him the benefit as he seemed really sincere in the post where he denied ever disparaging Favre. I guess that’s what QBs of Favre’s caliber do to fans when they join the team you like.

You sound like you’re claiming victory on this point based on you only being guilty of one instance of badmouthing Favre. This is comically delusional.

The lie of “never” morphed into “a single, six year old post.” I await with bated breath your latest revisionist history. Or you could man up and admit you were wrong.

Here’s a few more:

Guess the whole “changing his stripes” comment bears some truth to it after all.
