NFL Week 2

Nah, you need James Harrison beating a woman or Hines Ward driving drunk too.

Has there been a conspiracy against Steeler Nation unmasked yet this year?

Boy, the derp suddenly got thick in here. Two consecutive trolls, pretty impressive stuff.

Don’t sell yourself short. It was either zero or three.

I think Ben Roethlisberger was beating a woman while drunk, so that kind of covers it.

I was talking to Foie Gras, who has a long, contentious relationship with me vis a vis the Steelers, whereas you and Hamlet have no such relationship with me. Other than to insult me or the Steelers we never interact. Therefore, while I was giving him a hard time because I always have, something he will surely return in kind, you were simply pinging me for a reaction, the very definition of trolling.

But you knew that. It hardly required an explanation.

To be honest, I have no idea what distinction you’re making (you have a long relationship; really?) and it’s kind of weirding me out.

How could a guy who starts a thread every single year to call everyone’s attention to which football team he likes, and mock a handful of other teams, and who will do the same thing in every NFL thread, possibly be this sensitive when people notice after, what, a decade, that he does that, and how could he think that somehow some very mild ribbing of his team in *immediate *response to him mocking three other teams in a general all-purpose NFL thread was evidence of a personal vendetta against him which was designed to make him angry, as opposed to the intimate connection he’s made with a Bengals fan for the same purpose? Do you realize that that’s a little over the top?

I mean, people are always really tetchy around here when it comes to NFL discussion, but this is ridiculous even by that standard. Nobody’s trolling you. We did the exact same thing you did.

I could give a fuck.

But yes, we go at it like this every year. He likes a rival team, mhendo likes the Ravens and SenorBeef likes the Browns. All teams in the AFC North. See how that works?

It’s not that thread, we weren’t talking about the Steelers, and your comment in particular was a total non-sequitor. But hey, now I know it’s OK, so I’ll just bomb in with completely unrelated Eagles comments every time I see you. At least Hamlet was on point.

Fuck all the AFC North teams.

Happy?

Hell, I started the “point” by mocking the Bengals penchant for illegal activity with Foie Gras and he responded appropriately and with a sense of humor. Yet, when I do the exact same to you, you call it trolling. Different strokes, I guess. I really didn’t need yet another example of what Steeler fans are like.

He’s just testy because he was being held while composing that post.

Well, if he was being held, maybe he should not let a drunken Big Ben get so close while he is typing.

Speaking of the AFC North, Orlando Brown died today, only 40. Sheesh.

You guys are hilarious. I am now worried about my team though. If AJ Green goes down we are fucked. Shipley is out for the year and now this with our #2 wideout, whom was finally showing promise. After Green we have Brandon Tate, Ryan Whalen out of Stanford, Andre Caldwell and Artrell Hawkins’ brother. Yikes. Thank God for Gresham.

And also, Cedric Benson is going to be suspended for three games for his drunken 3am beatdown of his former roommate during the lockout. Why is he being suspended and not Kenny Britt or Aquib Talib?

Wearing the Bengals jersey automatically makes you a repeat offender, even before getting in trouble for the first time.

Is he being suspended for something that happened during the lockout? I thought Goodell made the decision not to suspend players for behavior during the lockout (hence nothing for Britt, Talib, etc.)?

Yes he is. He beat the shit out of his former roommate in Austin one morning at like 3am. He was arrested for it. It happened during the lockout. I am failing to see how what he did while technically unemployed is any better or worse than what Talib or Britt did, and neither of them got suspended.
You may be on to something about the Bengals jersey though. Its funny…people think that Bengals get arrested more than players from other teams and it just isn’t true. Football players are violent dudes in many cases, and they get arrested from time to time no matter whom they play for. The Bengals had a rash of arrests in 2006-07 that made headlines and the perception that they are a bunch of criminals has remained since then. The media perpetuates that myth and Mike Brown doesn’t do himself any favors in the media’s eyes when he decides to be “a redeemer” and brings back Chris Henry (overriding his coach by doing so), or signs Pacman to the roster.

I don’t get it either, especially considering what Talib is accused of doing.

Now, I cannot swear to the veracity, and I’m not about to track down everything, but clicking here takes you to what they call the “NFL Arrest Database”, which is, according to them: “These are arrests and citations involving NFL players since 2000 that were more serious than speeding tickets. The San Diego Union-Tribune reviewed hundreds of news reports and public records in compiling it. The list cannot be considered comprehensive in part because some incidents may not have been reported and some public records proved to be elusive. Increased media coverage of incidents also probably accounts for more incidents listed in recent years.”

Could be completely worthless, but I found it amusing to check on some things. According to that site, here’s some numbers arrests since 2000 by some of the teams:

Ravens: 16
Browns: 22
Steelers: 17
Bears: 19
Lions: 7
Packers: 15
Eagles:10

Now, that’s roughly an idea that teams should be somewhere in the teens (Except those Lions, it must be Detriot has sooooooo much crime they can’t be bothered with NFL players). Here’s your Bengals:

Bengals: 35

If it’s any consolation, of the teams I checked, the Vikings also had 35. Who knew?

Story.

My first thought was “What the fuck?!?” then I saw the words “Prince George’s County” and then it all made sense.

Anyone with a party boat?

Looks like Jerome Simpson will play today. There’s rumors afoot that he is just a minor cog in a huge distribution machine and that he’s cooperating. He still hasn’t been arrested. Part of the rumor is that there are more NFL players involved in this.

In other news, I love the entrepreneurial spirit of the guys over at lookatmeshirts.com…check out the new Bengals logo!
