NFL Week 3

You have like -3 yards of offense against the fucking raiders. Give your alcoholic frat boy a shot. It’s not even like you have someone Kyle Orton tier out there. Coaches are so terrified of making decisions.
Hardline just caught a ball with his knees. Apparently all he’s good for is ridiculous circus catches.

New England looks to be running up the score on everyone this year, just like in 2007. The whining then was pitiable; what’s it going to be like this time?

Oh I doubt anyone will make a fus. Who could have anything against the patriots? Their fans are so likable.

I’m not a pats fan, but all they ate doing is running it, and Jax can’t stop it. Not sure what anyone expects. It’s not like Brady is huckin it down field.

I don’t think I’m the only one getting too much joy from watching Kaepernick melt down this week.

Miami played like they thought this was a practice game. Buffalo played solid and trounced them.

Hoo boy it was bad today. McCown sucked. Defense sucked. Run game sucked. Coaching sucked. Team looks like they gave up. Play like that and here comes 1-15. Can’t even get excited about a #1 pick.

Single game rating of 16.7? Sad that the coach had no one to relieve the guy.

This Lions season is something else. I feel worse about them than I did during the infamous 0-16 season. The problem is, there’s too much wrong with the team for it to be a short term fix:

  1. The offensive coordinator is terrible, and seems to be coaching to Stafford’s weaknesses instead of his strengths.
  2. Eric Ebron at TE is the biggest waste of a top-10 draft pick I’ve ever seen.
  3. The o-line is just atrocious. Atrocious. I don’t think I’ve seen one this bad, ever. Maybe the Texans during their first year?
  4. The defense is bad without DeAndre Levy out there.
  5. Stafford isn’t very good. 2-3 years ago, I thought he had “it”, but either that was a mirage or this team has ground it out of him.
  6. The special teams coach should be fired today: they had an XP blocked, failed to convert a two point conversion, and lined up in an illegal formation on a missed Denver FG, gifting them enough yardage to make the kick on the second attempt.

Panthers are 3-0 but still coming too close to blowing 4th quarter leads

Saints almost came back to win but an amazing interception by Josh Norman saved the game NFL Football Highlights, Clips & Analysis | NFL.com
Atlanta is looking too good now. 7 wins isn’t gonna be enough to win the NFC South this year

I liked Stafford, but I talked to a Lions fan over the weekend and his opinion was the guy just doesn’t know how to win. And never did. Lots of talent, big arm, but no drive.

I think Stafford could win on the right team, but this isn’t it. Imagine a world where there’s no salary cap: wouldn’t Jerry trade for him to come to Dallas right about now? Wouldn’t Dallas be WAY better in that case?

The problem with Stafford in Detroit right now is he needs three things to be successful: time to let a play develop, vertical threats, and a decent safety valve in case the vertical routes don’t develop. As of now, the OL is so bad that he doesn’t have time, the OC has them throwing short routes (probably due to the bad OL), and Eric Ebron is a terrible TE, so there’s no safety valve.

I also think it’s the OC’s fault that the OL is so bad: I’ve seen some comments out there that the Lions’ offensive linemen are all strong man-blocking players, and Lombardi has them running a zone scheme. I don’t know enough about OL play to verify that, though.

That two minute drive sums up what I saw wrong with Detroit. All those five and out routes just didn’t get it done. Apparently, they had no time to allow the receivers a bit longer of a route because of the pressure on the QB, and any deeper receivers weren’t open anyways.

Yes, the Orange Crush was dominant, to be sure, but it seemed like the Lions weren’t even really trying during that last two minutes. Even the comment- taters (because they’re half baked, see?) were commenting on it.

Talib on Megatron was amazing. Never thought I’d see that man coming down off his elite pedestal. Not yet, anyways. Won lots of FF games with him over the years

What in the hell happened in Dallas? Wow. Total meltdown.

The Raiders are greatly improved. The Raider pass rush is greatly improved. It wouldnt shock me to see them plus .500 this season.

After a dismal 7/9 picking last week, this week should end at 14/2 provided G.B. plays as expected. In other words it seems the teams are finally revealing who they really are. The Patriots are pissed and intend to make a statement every week. Carson Palmer is playing lights out, watching he and Fitzgerald and Johnson was a joy, not to mention a healthy Honey Badger. Kap… damn. It’s okay for the team to suck in a rebuilding year but must you lead the way with a sputtering torch? Manning likes the pistol, good for he and Kubiak figuring that out. Julio Jones is worth every penny of his new contract. You just knew Buffalo was going to recommit after the shaming by N.E. Seattle’s O is still a big question. Wilson just doesn’t look ‘there’ yet. The Bengals / Ravens would have been an awesome game to be at. I can’t believe these Saints are a Sean Payton team. Texans… meh win. I believe the Jets missed Decker. Chip may have been a little sensitive about all this week’s “genius” press. I hadn’t gotton to see any Raider action yet. Look who’s waking up. The Texans surely entertained the idea of trading down and drafting Carr, but I think the possibility of having a second lemon from the same family was just too great. Time will tell if they made the right choice.

All in all a danm enjoyable Sunday. I do love The RedZone.

The Bears were shut out yesterday, and never even got close enough to attempt a field goal. Place-kicker Robbie Gould stepped on the field only once, to kick the second-half kick-off.

Which was returned for a touchdown.

Man, the special teams were disappointing. We even did that trick punt return play a few years ago!

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting a win, but I at least had some hope going into the second half after they held the Seahawks to 2 field goals. I think that return to start out the half broke everyone’s spirit.

Still not as bad a day kicking as the Yucs’ Kyle Brindza, for whom they traded a starting TE. He missed 3 FG’s and an EP, entirely accounting for their 10 point margin of defeat.

I am beginning, after watching a significant amount of their games for the past two weeks, that we may have to take the Arizona Cardinals seriously. That is one swarming defense and as long as Larry Fitzgerald is healthy they are a threat anywhere on the field.

On the other hand, I never saw the Baltimore collapse coming (not that it displeases me, mind you, being a Cleveland fan…)

I wouldn’t be shocked if the Raiders ended up with a top 12 offense this year. They’ve got some talent there.

As for the Browns, McCown spent most of the game checking down against a 4 man rush and getting his receivers creamed before he finally started stretching the field, at which point the offense promptly woke up. The running game has been a disappointment, the defense has been a massive disappointment, and I can’t tell if Pettine’s apparent nonchalance reflects patience, resignation that he’s going to be fired, or an aggravating Crennel-like stoicism. Patience and calm would seem to be the appropriate response, but meathead fans and local radio just can’t stand a coach who isn’t giving the appearance of whipping his players like galley slaves.

Regardless, whatever Pettine’s claims that Manziel doesn’t have a strong enough grasp of the offense to justify starting him, if they can’t come to some decision on whether Manziel has a future with the team by the end of this season, then Ray Farmer deserves to lose his job.
