They certainly looked good last night.
The most frustrating part of being a New York football fan is it’s both teams. So it’s not necessarily a Giants problem as it is a MetLife problem.
Every stat seems to have them both suck the worst. Giants have the 31st worst record over the past 8 years, better than only one team. That one team in dead last? The Jets.
Giants turned the ball over on five consecutive possessions, which hasn’t happened in 9 years. The hapless team that did it in 2016? The Jets.
It’s been pretty brutal.
Granted, Jones’ performance comes with a lot of caveats; soft schedule so far, real running game, above average defense, etc. They beat Denver by 1 point and lost to the only team over .500 they’ve faced, but they all still count, credit where credit’s due. Going forward, the Chargers are not looking so much like juggernauts after the last couple weeks, but that final stretch after the bye will define their season (Chiefs, Texans twice, Jags twice, Seahawks, 49ers).
I’m definitely interested to see how the Eagles/Giants rematch plays out in two weeks.
Bears@Washington Monday night should be good. Caleb vs Jayden round 2.
wasn’t some of that drafting/developing QBs? (looking at you Sam Darnold)
…and it’s only been a few games, but already potentially also Daniel Jones.
Shades of Chris Berman’s “former Giant, now good” quips in the 90s when doing highlights for guys like Ed McCaffrey.
I can’t remember a NFL RB so intent on giving himself as many concussions as possible as Cam Scattebo.
apparently all NYC, not just Giants, where QB go to die
You know, if the NFL wants to create fans outside the USA, they should maybe send teams to play overseas that can generate net passing yards greater than negative ten.
He makes Marion Barber look CTE-responsible by comparison.
Rodgers was cut loose in February, and this game was announced in May…I wonder, given the amount of time needed to schedule it, if they thought he’d still be with the Jets & were banking on his star power to generate excitement.
I’m beginning to think that maybe there are very valid reasons backup QBs are backups. I’m looking at you Cooper Rush.
I was extremely worried about Seattle’s defense in this game in Jacksonville. They’re down a few of their best defensive players and elevated 2 guys off the practice squad. And the Jaguars have looked sharp in recent games against great teams.
After 7 sacks on Lawrence, I guess I shouldn’t have been too worried.
What happened at the end of the Seahawks game? I was following the play-by-play online. It was 3rd and 12, Charbonet ran for 5 yards to the Jacksonville 9, then the two-minute warning. Should have been 4th down, but the next there plays were kneel-downs by Darnold.
Was there a penalty on that run, or something wonky in the data?
They kicked a field goal, but the Jags were flagged for defensive holding. Seattle accepted the penalty (took the points off the board) and knelt three times for the win.
At that point the 2 minute warning had already happened and Jacksonville had blown all their timeouts, so there was nothing to stop the clock.
My wife really wanted Jacksonville to get one more possession because she wanted to see if Seattle could get at least one more sack, but it was not to be.
Thanks.
I’ve seen cases where a team accepted a penalty on a successful field goal, kept the ball, and continued the drive trying to get a touchdown. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s one of the classic football debates; do you take the points off the board (as you rightly said)?
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it like this, though; accepting the penalty let them run out the clock.
The game was over either way, but taking the penalty means letting the game end quickly to avoid wearing players out even more and risking another injury.
Is Daniel Jones the MVP through the first 6 games???
