Yes, a coworker Bengals fan told me this today. Mike Brown is an idiot if he does nothing. I also heard the Raiders were ineterested in Orton.
As for Hester, I’m not saying he’s a HOFer, but in addition to his TD returns, he also changes opponents’ kickoff and punt strategy. I think there’s at least as much merit to putting a return specialist in the NFL HOF as putting a closer in the MLB HOF.
I’m not sure if Matt Moore will start another game for the Dolphins or anyone else, but on the positive side, he did live through the end of the game. Shonn Green hurling that official into a defender was also something to see.
I think there were a few dropped. And arguably one interception was due to Revis throwing the receiver to the ground.
But Moore also didn’t even see a couple wide-open receivers, and just blatantly missed on a couple more. The O-line gets a little blame, but not all of it.
I agree! Brown has an opportunity to strengthen his roster, either with a current player (Forte? Hmm? Hmm?) or with a couple draft picks. If Big Al were still alive I think this deal would get done. Now…I doubt it, because Brown is…well, an idiot, and a stubborn, conservative one at that. Deadline is today, so we’ll see if Brown wants to be vindictive and let Palmer rot or not. I guess he could always trade him next offseason before/during the draft or something, but what will his value be then? He’s not getting any younger.
I think Brown is stubborn enough that he will need a “Godfather”-esque deal to move him off punishing Carson Palmer. Even if it kills any value Palmer may have had.
and, sadly, will still be the best reciever the Rams have. At least, it pairs him with McDaniels again which is what got him the one good year to begin with.
The Raiders are now in real trouble. They have to go with Boller (why, oh why couldn’t he have done just well enough in Baltimore to keep him there, he’s worse than Flacco will ever be) or Pryor. Garrard is unavailable due to needed back surgery, which leaves…
…Dare I say it?..
…Brett Favre as a real possibility. They’ll ask him, you know they will. The question is, will he go for it?
But no, Carson Palmer will rot in the deepest pit of darkest hell. What he should do is end his “retirement” and make Mike Brown pay him for sitting on the bench the rest of the year, working toward the end of his contract, and making himself genuinely viable trade bait. It’s much better than sitting on his couch at home and getting nowhere with nothing to show for it. He said he would never play for the Bengals again, that doesn’t mean he can’t suit up and ride the pine, and if they try to put him into the game he can refuse to go in. Insubordination can’t possibly be anything new to the Bengals.
I thought the Palmer thing was a pipe dream, but ESPN is reporting that it might actually happen. Oakland is offering first-round picks in 2012 and 2013.
Mike Brown better take that. He already has whiffed spectacularly in 1999 not trading with the Bears for their entire draft (instead drafting Akili Smith…:smack:) and he also turned down a great offer from the Redskins for Chad OchoDouche-o during the 2008 draft of their first rounder and a third. C’mon Mike! First round picks are cheaper now than ever before! That’s your M.O., dude!
Sounds like a done deal to me. 2012 first round pick plus a conditional 2013 first round pick.
Artrell Hawkins, former Bengals CB on Twitter: "@lilvernon28: @artrellhawkins mike brown running down queens Blvd w raiders draft picks…Raiders “thief! stop thief! Come back thief!”~LMAO
No joke! That’s something Al Davis would do, throw away the future for a guy who may or may not get the job done. That’s too much for Palmer, and if true Mike brown would be a fool to turn it down. Then again, he did pass up a similar offer for Ochocinco a few years ago, so don’t be surprised if he turns this one down too.
Wow, that is a really shitty trade for the Raiders. A first round pick and a possible first rounder next year for an over the hill, immobile, likely out of shape, not great QB on the downside of his career? And I thought nobody could make sillier personnel decisions than Al Davis.
If this is true, congrats to the Bengals for taking advantage of a really stupid team in a win now mentality.
The Raiders probably could have gotten Orton or Garrard for cheaper and either of them is probably more game ready than Palmer. Wow.
Now my coworker Bengals fan, while happy about the deal, is lamenting that Brown will now look like a genius for holding out because this kind of offer would never have been an option before the season.
The Raiders spoke to Garrard and were told he’s going to have back surgery, so he’s not available. No word on whether he needed the back surgery or if he’s just trying really hard to avoid the Raiders.
If so, congratulations. Then again, if the Bengals’ track record on 1st-round picks holds, you’re looking at Akili Smith redux. That’s great for the rest of the AFC North, because when they’re trying to make a draft bust work the rest of the division will be beating the hell out of them. Please draft a defensive back. Please.
