NFL Week 6

Eli does have twice as many Super Bowl wins as Namath, and as many as Peyton.

It took Peyton twice as long to get those two rings, though. And the net SB margin of victory for Eli’s team is 30 points better than for Peyton’s teams.

The first London game is this week, but it’s a normal 1 pm ET start. Even though the premier league is in an international break, there’s still not a mention of the NFL on the home page of BBC Sport.

Late start because it is two west-coast teams. No one in Seattle or Oakland wants to (can?) get up at 6am to watch football.

Shirley you’re not arguing Eli is in any way a better QB than Peyton.

Psst. He has never been even a good QB

But he’s unstoppable. Just like Citizen Eco-Drive watches. (That ad campaign was hilarious when it came out and it’s still hilarious in retrospect.)

Amusing split-screen from ESPN. Snowing and wind chill of 16 in Denver, heat index of 101 in Miami. Both reporters looked miserable.

What’s the point of having rules about helmet to helmet hits when they don’t get flagged? It was blatant there in London.

Chargers player false starts. Draws dline offside. No flags. Chargers score TD.

Thing is… You gotta call something there. The dline is obviously offside. So either you miss the false start and throw a flag for offside and make it a free play or you see the false start. You can’t just throw no flag like nothing happened. Doesn’t make sense.

Maybe I don’t understand the timing rules, but an untimed down at the end of the 3rd quarter just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Wow. Just a flat-out whiff by the officials on that one.

Is it fairly common in the suburbs to be hearing boomy noises whenever the local team scores? There seem to be a lot of people in my neighborhood who like explosions and will use any excuse to light a fuse.

It was actually hard to see and not at all blatant. It was a tackle leading with the shoulder that ended up being helmet-to-helmet due to how low the receiver was. On review you can see the collision but watching in real time it looked like it was only a shoulder hit. That’s why there was no flag.

I’m not saying it wasn’t worthy of a flag, I’m just saying it’s no surprise it was missed.

Cowboys classless as usual. Up 30 points with 8 minutes left, starters still in, go for it on 4th and 1…

It sure would be nice if Denver had a run defense. And a competent QB.

I really can’t get ired about that with professional sports. I mean, screw the Cowboys, but I’m fine with it.

They’re not kids, they’re pros. If they don’t want the other team to score they should stop them. No running up the score in pro sports.

Yes, you’ll occasionally see a team seat their starters late in a pro football game with a foregone conclusion but that’s to rest them and avoid the risk of injury or give your second string folks a chance to play; much like not playing starters in a preseason game. It’s not any kind of standard courtesy or anything. It’s a decision made for the good of your team not for any kind of “honor”. Not in the NFL.

Not sure who watched that embarrassment him Miami today, but it looked like the Bears defense might have been out partying in South Beach last night and left their edge in the club. Totally embarrassing effort, especially in the first half. Most of the really bad plays were in the second half when the heat just ruined them, but in the first half they weren’t even trying. Really gave the Dolphins a lot of confidence that sunk them.

This also makes 3 games where Nagy turtled up in the 4th quarter leading to 2 losses. Classic Andy Reid disciple there.

Really hope this team learned a lesson today. Maybe it’s a good thing they missed that FG in OT, escaping with a win might not have drove home the point when they watched the tape this week.

As a side note, the Refs absolutely swallowed the whistles when it came to plays in the trenches. Not a single holding call all game, which really leveled the playing field. Both QBs had all day in the pocket when they wanted it. Also, we have a new winner for worst roughing the passer call of the season, take your prize Leonard Floyd.
