NFL Week 7

The game is being played in Indianapolis, not London.

I think he meant the early game on TV in London…

I lost my suicide pool on the Seahawks/Rams game today. It’s actually the latest into the season I’ve lasted in a while…

Didn’t know he’s a Brit. My apologies.

I’m neutral (and was actually kinda rooting for the Rams in this one), but the Seahawks were completely screwed by the officials declining to review the fumble play late in the game. WTF?

Yes. If the offense substitutes, the defense must be allowed enough time to do the same.

A one point win over the Vikings is nothing to brag about. But after losing Jackson and Spiller, I’ll take anything I can get.

Mike Carey explained the Rams-Hawks fumble call. Boomer was unmoved.

“Early game in the UK” didn’t give you a hint? Sheesh, etv78, for all the sports threads you post in, I’ve seen very little that indicates you actually know anything about sports.

The whole NFC-S looks like a soggy bag of nightsoil. If any division can put up a sub-500 division winner, this will be the one.

I just reread the thread, noticed I misread it before. Frank, I’m sure you’ve NEVER done that before, ASSHOLE!

I missed it - what was the explanation?

They certainly could’ve looked at it, but I think “completely screwed” is an overstatement, since there’s a 0% chance the call would’ve been overturned.

ETA: If I recall, Carey didn’t exactly explain it. He just said they probably should’ve buzzed down given the game situation, but that it would have been almost impossible to overturn anyway.

As Chip Kelly says: culture beats scheme.

Football is built around teamwork and cooperation, much more so than baseball or baseketball. Harvin was a turd and a cancer, and an expensive one who wouldn’t even go on the field unless he chose to. Not sure they’re better at this instant, but long-term, this is a good move.
For the Jest, Idzik is hoping 8-8 might save his job. They won’t reach it, and it might not save him if they did. Though IMHO he isn’t the problem there.

Not really; if Bailey can’t field the punt, the most likely outcome is it bounces into the EZ for a touchback. Yeah. there’s a chance he muffs it and it’s bouncing loose, but even then, there’s not anyone near him, so he can just grab it.
Does anyone remember this same play being run 3-4 years ago? IIRC it was the Bears back when Hester was at his best, and it worked then, too, but got called back on a penalty.

They were punting from their own 30!

It really is quite straightforward: a review determines whether there was a fumble (e.g., was the ball carrier’s knee down before he lost control of the ball). In this case, there was no doubt about that, it definitely was a fumble, so the question comes down to possession. With a pile of eight players fighting for the ball, possession is determined by who has the ball when the pile is finally unstacked – such a call goes to the zebra who finds the ball and its owner. There really was nothing to review.

Oh, sorry – I thought you meant the Bailey return. I didn’t know about the fake until just now.

Holy Shit, that was ballsy.

Fox picking up the line of scrimmage audio in the Cowboys-Giants game. Romo is under center, calling out the protection.

Romo: “53 is the Mike!”
LB Jameel McClain (#53): “No, I’m not the Mike! I am NOT the Mike!”

Pretty funny.

That is fing hilarious.
