NFL WEEK 8: Is Enough

With the trade deadline coming up this Thursday, it has been, and should be an interesting week of movement.

Trades made this week:

Emmanuel Sanders and a 5th round pick go from Denver to San Francisco for a 3rd and a 4th round pick. That’s a large price for a 32 year old, coming off injury, no long term plan, but it is a position of need for the Niners and they are in win-now mode so points for aggression. Personally, I think it was a mistake and Sanders won’t have much impact, but who knows.

Mohammed Sanu goes from the Falcons to the Pats for a 2nd round pick. Sanu is a solid player, but Atlanta got a solid price for a guy that is pretty superfluous on their roster. I’m also not sure why the Pats want yet another player to play the slot, but maybe they’ll move him around. Again, not seeing him making a huge impact other to replace Josh Gordon going to IR.

Quandre Diggs, a not very good starting safety, and a 7th round pick goes from the Lions to the Seahawks for a 5th rounder. Diggs had a promising rookie season, but has floundered this year. Not a big deal either way.

Gareon Conley, a former first round pick, goes from the Raiders to the Texans for a 3rd round pick. Gruden continues to jettison anyone who isn’t a “his guy”, which is one way to go about changing your roster, I guess. I don’t like Conley, but he’s pretty talented, and he fills a need for the Texans. Not a bad price if he continues to develop.

Finally, I expect some other names to be moved before Tuesday. Melvin Gordon, AJ Green, Leonard Williams, anyone in a Dolphins uniform, and anyone Jon Gruden didn’t draft are all on the block and could make an impact. Should be fun to watch.

Also, Nick Foles returns to practice. Should be interesting to see if he takes over, or if my man Gardner Minshew holds onto the starting gig. Tough call (no, it’s not. Minshew forever!)

To be honest, this is a shitty week of football to me. I’ll definitely watch the Packers, but the luster is off the game without Mahomes in there. Maybe the Bills/Eagles game, but it’s painful watching Josh Allen try to throw the ball. The Chargers/Bears would have been an interesting matchup, but the Chargers are reeling from injuries and the Bears offense is awful. Yeah, I think this weekend will be a pumpkin picking/seeding the lawn/getting Halloween decorations/getting outside/family game night during the day kind of a weekend.

Let’s hear from you all.

Foles doesn’t have the ‘stache to get his job back.

Though I see him trying to get a fake one added, see here:

Ugh. You’re right. On paper it’s not a great week although I’m interested to see how CAR does at S.F. I hope it’s on “regular T.V.” where I live.

What, you’re not interested in the Keenum-Cousins Freaky Friday Bowl?

I guess there’s a certain level of intrigue in seeing K.C. go up against his old team. But the 'skins are horrible.

The Bengals beating the Rams in London will be worth watching.

I love how the NFL is trying to ‘grow the game’ in London. They send over the pathetic Bengals and the only decent game this week is Packers/Chiefs which starts at 1:20 AM U.K. time.

Vikings scored. Game over.

I sure wouldn’t put much money down on that happening. But I’ll sure be happy if it does!

And who’s the genius who decided to pit pathetic Miami against Pittsburgh for next Monday? I bet they were thinking that an assistant from N.E. would bring “The Patriot Way” to south Florida and make the 'phins competitive {snort}.

Monday Night Football lost its place as being the league’s weekly showcase game to Sunday Night Football years ago. As a result, the MNF game is a dog more often than not. (And, lawdy, don’t even get me started on Thursday games… :stuck_out_tongue: )

I tried to watch one MNF game this season, but Booger McFarland and whoever the hell the other guy is, are fucking terrible. They actually make me miss Dennis Miller; somehow they are even less coherent than he was.

I wonder how well the Dolphins do in ratings nationally these days? It’s been a very long time since the Griese/Shula era and even the MiamiMarino era during Miami Vice era is well over 30 years ago. There used to be a clause in the MNF contract where each team had to get a game every certain number of years.

I stopped watching when the guy who beat a three year old so badly with a switch that he left lacerations on his testicles was lauded by the announcers for running farther than some other guys. Fuck Adrian Peterson and the TNF commentators.

The Bengals are no longer pathetic, as they finally got rid of Burfict. Now they’re just terrible.

One thing I noticed last night watching (parts of) the game was how quickly the game went. Normally there’s a fair amount of downtime, during which I can get other stuff done, but I was surprised how quickly it went.

Turns out my impression was correct. The game was only 2 hours, 41 minutes long, one of the shortest games of the year (and of the last decade). Apparently, Washington’s professional football team set a record last week in finishing their game in 2 hours, 36 minutes, which was the shortest game in a decade. Kudos to them for not drawing out the inevitable.

I really hope those redzone problems continue for the Vikings, because with their running game, they look like a very formidable team. Another random thought: Dwayne Haskins, like many rookie QB’s, is not ready for NFL football. If they continue to throw him out there, they’ll ruin him. I continue to disagree with the immediate playing of a rookie QBs so often. Give them at least a year ala Mahomes.

It wasn’t entirely on purpose, at least not for that reason. I don’t know if you’ve ever been to FedEx Field, but it’s pretty much always been a shithole, and they don’t take good care of the field. It was raining the entire game and the entire field was like a gigantic half-filled kiddie pool. Players would fall and then slide across the field like 10-15 yards. Looked like fun.

But anyways, the weather and field conditions dictated running the ball almost exclusively, for both teams.

It has been interesting with the last two Redskins games getting over so quickly. They cut away to the Cardinals game afterwards on Sunday and I saw a good chunk of the 4th quarter. Tonight’s game was also suprisingly fast, which is nice for those who have to work in the AM

Home team is favored in every game? How common is that?

Seattle and Green Bay are road teams.
