One of Geno Smith’s interceptions should not have counted.
I do still think DK Metcalf might have gotten away with holding on the game-winning TD, though both the announcers and Pete himself later said that he let go quick enough that the no flag was correct. I’m still unsure, a tugged jersey is usually a flag in my experience.
Is it me or is it his year that the good teams are great and the bad teams are worthless? you’re either 4-2 or 2-4 I think there’s 2 maybe 3 in the middle?
I was listening to sports radio Friday, and the thinking was the Vikings were well-positioned after a win against the 49ers. Of the games left, two games with the Lions and one with the Bengals looked challenging. The games against the Saints and Falcons look a lot tougher now.
Cousins has been durable with the Vikings, so they don’t even have a decent back up.
They have Nick Mullens. Now, I remember Mullens as a backup in San Francisco, he was your standard backup. Nobody you wanted as a starter, but meh. Completion percentage in the mid 60s, but has a putrid 27:23 TD to interception ratio. Oh, and Mullens hurt his back and is on the IR, so can’t even play right now (though he probably can be back on the roster soon).
That leaves them with Jaren Hall, who had to step in after Cousins was hurt. A rookie that I had never heard of. In college, he was Zach Wilson’s backup at BYU for a couple of years (yes, Zach Wilson of the Jets) and took over as starter after Wilson left. He was a 5th round draft pick this year, so clearly nobody that anyone was eager to grab. I can’t say he won’t be any good, don’t forget Tom Brady was a late pick and even Brock Purdy has had his moments. But I wouldn’t count on it.
Sean Mannion is the other backup. He has been around for 8 years and he’s worse than Mullens. He’s usually the backup to the backups. He’s on the Vikings’ practice squad at the moment. He was in Seattle last year, and he’s so irrelevant that I didn’t even know who he was even though I’m a lifelong Seahawks fan and follow the team closely.
The Vikings are in a tough spot. They have a 4-4 record and are in second place in their division. If they still had a good QB, they’d be a legitimate contender. As it is, they could try to tank somewhat (which to me would mean seeing how good Jaren Hall can be) but they’ve been good enough that I doubt they’ll be close to getting a top draft pick. Cousins is set to be a free agent next year, there are supposed to be some good QBs in next year’s draft, and this could be a good opportunity for them. But it’s probably too late to suck enough to go that route.
Or they can try to get a decent QB that’s available, and do their best to succeed. But who is out there? Carson Wentz? Matt Ryan? Nick Foles? All of those are players who’ve had some real success in the past (and Nick Foles was once a Super Bowl MVP) but I expect their best days are in the past. Minnesota is in an interesting spot and I don’t envy them or their fanbase right now.
They were ordered to turn it off at Rikers Island because it was considered cruel and unusual punishment.
Fuckin’ Giants. This is now two losses that should have been wins. They should absolutely have beaten the Bills, and it’s almost inconceivable that they didn’t beat the Jets. All you need is for your excellent kicker to make like a 35-yard field goal to win that game. Either of them; he missed two! And that’s the difference between 2-6 and 4-4.
They got the ball at the Jets 26 yard line with 1:26 left and a 10-7 lead. 3 running plays got them 9 yards as the Jets burned their last two timeouts. They then had a 4th and 1 at the 17 with 28 seconds left. Even a made FG doesn’t quite guarantee a win, so give the ball to Barkley, get a first down, win the game.
The Lions and Raiders game is looking reminiscent of the Giants/Jets. Lions fumbles after 2 plays. Next play, Garappolo throws INT. The Lions punt, Raiders turnover on downs…
The Bears just aquired Montez Sweat from the Commanders for a 2nd round pick. This will help as Chicago’s pass rush has been abysmal this year. The trade doesn’t shore up any of the numerous holes the Bears still have, but this will help the D hopefully.
Also, CB Jaylon Johnson has reportedly requested a trade. He’s a good corner but I don’t think he’s worth what he thinks he’s worth.
The secret on Sweat is he has a shockingly low edge rush win rate. He puts up decent numbers, but they are rarely high-impact plays. Has a tendency to freelance.
Don’t get me wrong he’s a good player but there’s a reason Washington preferred to trade him and keep Chase Young. On their end it should be a high 2nd round pick, so they did pretty good here.
