NFL Week 8

Schefter tweeted the waiver priority a bit ago for a few key teams.

Rams have a leg up on the Skins. Apparently the Panthers are too cheap to be a realistic consideration but that’s nutty. The more I consider it the more Moss feels like a perfect fit in St. Louis.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but its my understanding that Moss is only on waivers for 24 hours then he becomes a free agent. At that point, I believe Minnesota would be on the hook for the 3 million remaining on his current contract and the team that signs him would be on the hook for whatever the new contract would be. Correct?

From ESPN

heh, were it only so simple for Mr. Moss.

Now the rumor is that Childress cut Moss unilaterally and the rest of the front office found out through the media.

Childress might end up being the one who is cut…

That doesnt even sound realistic. Dumb rumor there.

Exactly, Favre would have to make the decision.

No one apparently actually officially released Moss and the deadline for waiving him today is over.

Now I’m hoping for the drama of some bizarre ass Childress Mindfuck.

Per Mike Lombardi.

Moss to Buffalo or Carolina doesn’t really make sense, but the Cowboys are 1-6, and doesn’t claiming Randy Moss off of waivers seem like exactly the kind of crazy shit Jerry Jones would do? If he still had Tony Romo, I kinda think he would (but with Kitna even he has to recognize that the season is gone). A Wide Receiver corps of Moss, Austin, Bryant, and Williams, with Witten at TE, would be pretty sick.

Unless money’s an issue, I don’t see why Arizona (3-4) shouldn’t give Moss a shot. In that shitty division they’re absolutely playoff contenders, and even if the only thing they can do with Moss for the first month is send him on fly routes and deep posts, just imagine how that would open things up for Fitzgerald.

I guess a similar logic works for San Fran (2-6); this would be their chance to get back into it. Though Singletary’s tough-guy coaching style would never mesh, and they’d probably be foolish to try.

St. Louis does make a lot of sense. Hell, the whole NFC West.
For the sake of everyone involved, I hope Moss lands on a team that plays on artificial turf; he’s apparently demonstrably better on turf than grass (not even including his years in Oakland).

All those teams you just mentioned, aside from St. Louis, have QB issues. If Moss wasn’t willing to play hard with Tom Brady throwing the ball, he sure isn’t going to try for Jimmy Clausen or Max Hall.

I don’t think anyone should sign Moss until he gives some indication that he still wants to play football.

I would not be surprised if it was a Childress threat that got taken as fact by the “we need to break the story first” media. Maybe they are shopping him around.

To add to the confusion, one source is reporting that Chilly actually told the team that Moss had been waived, but no actual release was made. Perhaps he got overruled, perhaps it was miscommunication, perhaps they’re trying to get a trade, or perhaps he will be released tomorrow.

But no matter what, it really is a circus in Minnesota.

Most comedic scenario:

Moss’ agent tells 30 teams that Moss will dog it all season if they claim him and they will have to eat the $3.5M. Then the Patriots let him clear waivers and sign him to the veteran’s minimum while the Vikings have to pay the $3.5M.

Apparently it’s true. At least that’s what’s being reported in the local media here. Childress told the team he was going to cut Moss, but didn’t tell the owners or the front office first. As of right now, Moss is still not on waivers. The players were reportedly livid about Childress trying to get rid of Moss. We’ll see what happens, but Moss is not officially on waivers yet.

Gotta love that Chilly. Okay… you can’t be Vince “Badass” Lombardi when you go pick up your qb at the airport. When you then send three veterans on the owner’s private plane to beg him to come back again. So now… you’re … tough?
I find it interesting that Randy’s teammates all love him. Not like Barry Bonds…or Sammy Sosa… or Jeff Kent. Randy’s teammates speak well of him… the media doesn’t enjoy him… but again i say… fuck the media who cares what they think. Tedy Bruschi just today stated that he liked Randy and that Randy was great in the locker room… the only players who crap on Randy are cornerbacks… the second level divas of the NFL… I hope the Falcons get him… teaming him with Roddy White and Tony G will kick our offense into high gear…

I don’t understand why some fans are so interested in getting him for their team, still.

Did anyone see that spin move from Dwight Freeney?

Schnikes.

Won’t happen. Spagnuolo has done an amazing job building a team out of nothing and is not going to take the chance of adding the likes of Moss. Even if the Rams lose the remaining eight, he’s still ahead of schedule.

Speaking of coaches, the pundits seem to think that no coach with a contract past this year will be fired, as the owners won’t want to pay two coaches during the lockout next season. That lets out Childress, not to mention Philips in Dallas.

Has any major NFL player ever played for 3 teams in a season? I could see a kicker or punter maybe making his way to 3 teams, but I can’t think of any star NFL player suiting up for 3 teams in the same season.
