Randy Moss traded to Oakland

The Star Tribune has a brief article regarding this.

Now that’s a nice insult. The Raiders won, what, four games last year?

There’s certainly a lot going on behind the scenes. If I were Reggie Fowler and was not consulted on this, I’d raise hell - the value of the team is nowhere near what it was yesterday, in my opinion. The Vikings have had sellouts for every home game since 1998, when Moss was drafted. Love him or hate him, he’s a strong draw for the fans.

But on the other hand, his back-loaded contract will need to be renegotiated shortly, and might as well let the Raiders worry about that. And Moss was losing a step, or so it seemed last year, due to his persistent foot injuries. And two first-rounders and a starting veteran LB will be nice to have…

But on the first hand, what the hell?

(And yes, a millionaire putting on a different jersey when he plays a child’s game is meaningless, but I’m still annoyed. Go reread the introduction to Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot.)

Of course, I meant Oakland’s first rounder and Minnesota’s existing first round pick. Getting two firsts plus a starter for Moss would almost be worth it, imo.

Nice fit. Clever. About as clever as David Boston signing with a team located in the cocaine capital of the US.

My first impulse is to think it’s idiotic.

First round picks are unprovens, Randy is proven to be one of the best in the business.

Napoleon Harris is a nice pick up, I was worried that they would pick up someone older. Sure, our D is going to improve, but how Defenses play against us has just changed drastically. Moss changed how everyone played against us.

I hope it turns out to be a Hershell Walker calibur trade, not in the sense that the Vikings get screwed.

on the plus side, Nate Burleson is on my SDMB keeper league.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo…
You don’t trade Babe Ruth, you assholes. Didn’t you see what happened to Boston?

And who the hell is going to throw Randy the ball in Oakland? Kerry Collins? Rich Gannon? What were they thinking?

Bad mistake bad mistake bad mistake…
::goes off muttering::

Bwahahahaha!

At least Boston won a World Series with Ruth.

I hereby declare the Ewing Theory to be in potential effect now - depending on how many people write off the Vikings because of the trade.

I hate to say I told you so. Well, actually no I don’t

I told you it would happen. It was almost inevitable. Another rebuilding year for the Vikes. Anyone shocked? Didn’t think so.

That is all.

Don’t get feeling too happy about it, though. We still do have Daunte and a couple of other good receivers (not in Moss’s class but Nate Burleson has really blossomed) as well as a stacked corps of running backs and our D has a chance to get better now.

Packer fans, on the other hand, may be staring at the Craig Nall era at quarterback.

I am not entirely sure why Viking fans are upset at this trade. Moss always was and always has been a head ache. With his injury last year health is certain;y a concern. His type of player is espicially vulnerable becuase his greatness comes from being faster than CBs and being able to outjump them. At age 28 he does not have that many good years left. This allows the Vikings to get younger and cheaper (Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards) at the WR position while picking up a young starter not to mention a guy that will actually play on every down. Depending on how early the other pick is this could be an excellent trade for the Vikings at worse a wash.

If they can turn one of their extra running backs into another defensive starter or a replacement wide reciever (allowing them to draft defense) this will be a great off-season for them.

OK, comparing this to the Walker trade is a bit over the top. Comparing Randy Moss to Babe Ruth is fucking lunacy.

I don’t think it’s all that bad of a deal, especially considering what might be available at that #7 spot. I guess if you’re a Vikings fan it’s a big shock looking at the names involved, but in my opinion, all the Vikings have to do to make this trade look good is add a decent weapon to fill Moss’ spot, and improve the defense just a little bit with that black hole of salary cap space they’ve got.

That is to say, exactly what treis said.

Nearly addition by subtraction, though I’ll agree that Fowler got screwed.

Moss is a loser. He was never going to be a part of championship team in Minnesota. Maybe he’ll turn himself around like T.O. did, but I doubt it; Al Davis sure isn’t going to teach discipline, teamwork and a good attitude.

If I were a betting man, I’d lay money on the Vikings winning at least as many games this year as last.

Doggy-knees, if Randy Moss is Babe Ruth, then it would seem that I am Wilt Chamberlain.

So where’s my remaining 19,999 women?

Well, the worst thing about this is obviously how it affects me. In the Randy Moss trading speculation thread, I was fairly cocksure that he wouldn’t get traded and downright pissy to the speculators. Consider my hat eaten. Damn polyster yarn.

Wow, you told us it would happen? It takes incredible insight and knowledge to repeat rumors that appear on national news shows and headlines all over the country.

Well, I said it long before you ever registered. It’s not like I was referencing a statement from 3 weeks ago. If you care to look for it, you’ll find a post or 3 from before last season where I said Moss would be traded.
Now go back to eating your Play-Doh.

Oh my God! You actually predicted that [famous pro athlete] would one day play for another team, and years later it happened??? Have any hot stock tips for me?
