NFL Week 8

How about that? The Bears can win on a Monday.

And the Browns can’t win on any day with a ‘y’ in it.

When I was in college, my university’s team lost some game 54-0, and the line was "but it wasn’t as close as the score indicates’. Same for the Browns being 0-8. Nine consecutive losing seasons. “How much worse can it get?” is a question that has lost its interest.

They play Dallas this week. Dallas is known to choke against opponents who should be an easy win.

I have confidence in the Browns’ ability to wring defeat from the jaws of victory.

Any time a trade with the Pats looks too good to be true, you can bet it probably is. I was excited for the Browns for about 2 seconds until I let myself wonder why Belichick would let him go.

Will there ever again be such a thing?

Seems crazy to me. I read an article that posited a few points that made have contributed to the trade. Among them:

  1. “Collins was somewhat overrated by the populace…His snap count dropped and he was barely noticeable on the field when he was out there. I can’t recall seeing him Sunday on anything but third-down situations.”

  2. “But for all of his crazy athleticism…he gave up as many big plays as he made. For every leap over the Colts’ offensive line to power-slam an extra-point attempt, there he was getting toasted — twice — by pokey Broncos tight end Owen Daniels in the AFC Championship Game. The dazzling stuff was something to behold. But the subtle stuff that you and I wouldn’t notice must have driven the coaches crazy.”

  3. “Collins’s contract status was obviously a factor here. ESPN’s Schefter noted that he’d heard Collins was looking for a $100 million-plus deal, which was not happening.”

You know, the Bears didn’t look half bad last night. I realize that the Vikings aren’t at 100%, but the Bears were executing plays nicely. I was much more entertained than I expected to be.

God, the Seattle offense just looks bad. I can’t figure out if its Wilson’s injuries, the O line, the misuse of Graham at Tight End, his inability to block or if it’s a culmination of everything.

Ugh.

Wentz hasn’t been nearly as good over the last few weeks as he was at the start of the season. He wasn’t bad against Dallas, but he wasn’t good enough, either.

He has been abysmal so far today. Dreadful. Horrendous. Horrific. Very troubling. He has shown the toughness to rebound from similar, if lesser, situations and not crater, but now has to be the time. Let’s see.

Woops, no one started a week 9 thread so I went ahead.
