I’m shocked that the Jags@Titans game didn’t spur anyone else onto starting this thread.
Here’s Blake Bortles’ stat line from last night: 33 of 54 for 337 yards 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Pretty damn impressive stat line. But anyone who actually watched him play would likely tell you that he didn’t play very well at all, and his successes only came when the Jags were down big in the 4th quarter and the with the Titans playing prevent defense. Garbage time king!
There was a point later in the 4th quarter when the Titans were up 36-8 and I was hoping for one more TD + XP to make it 43-8 and irritate Broncos fans.
I didn’t even watch the game…total lack of interest, though I missed out on starting Bortles in one of my leagues, went with Philip Rivers against Denver instead. Now in Fold-o-rama…
Not that it matters, but this is the week Cleveland is finally going to pull out the win. I was even thinking of being ballsy and picking them in one of my survival leagues. Probably not.
I think tonight’s Dallas / Philadelphia game will be exciting. I’m a huge Cowboys fan, but if they win they will have a huge decision for next week. Do they bring back Romo against the Browns or not? I think if they bring Romo back at all this year it has to be next week, since the schedule gets difficult again after that, and I don’t think it would be good to bring him back against the lies of the Steelers, Ravens, or Vikings. If they lose tonight at least they have a better excuse to bring Romo back next week.
Clearly, the NFL need some sort of “shootout” scheme to decide a game tied after OT. How about this:
Each team attempts 5 unopposed FGs from the 30-yard line - each kick to be made by a different player. If tied after this, repeat from the 35-yard line. Etc.
Can you imagine a game coming down to players doing things they are not trained, paid, or ever asked to do? The closest thing I can think of is a baseball game going 18 innings and position players being asked to pitch. Ties are much more legitimate than that circus show. Fuck Europe.
This was my first chance to really watch Wentz and Prescott. They’ve both been hyped this year, and I’m just not seeing it. They’re certainly ahead of the curve as first year QB’s: they’re not scared shitless and don’t seem to panic under pressure, but I’m not seeing much evidence that either one of them is bound for QB glory in the NFL. The offenses seem to be pretty well tailored to their skills, with the Cowboys relying on the running game and the offensive line to protect Prescott and the Eagles having Wentz get rid of the ball quickly and with short passes to let him get a rhythm. It is impressive that Dallas is doing it with a guy who was a 4th round draft pick and the Eagles mortgaged their future for Wentz, so I’d give the edge to Dallas, but neither impressed me all that much tonight. But, again, both are young QB’s, both are playing smart and do a good job of protecting the ball, so it will be interesting to see if they develop into NFL QB’s who can expand a team’s playbook.
I’m happy the Cowboys won, but I think they got away with one on the drive in OT. The pass to Elliot down to the 5 looked like it should have been called back. Doug Free, the right tackle, looked like he committed a false start. As quick with the flag that the refs have been this game, I’m surprised they didn’t catch it.
I was most impressed with Elliott. This was the first time I’ve actually seen him play. The other two rookies were alright, but not particularly the second coming of Peyton in either case.
The Browns just acquired linebacker Jamie Collins from the Patriots for a what’s presumed to be a 2017 3rd round comp pick. I see a lot of Pat’s fans not being thrilled with the trade but his rookie contract ends after the season, if the Browns can’t resign him the trade is a waste.
Welp, Green Bay lost a close one. I ended up stranded for a couple hours at O’Hare last night and got to talk some football with a bartender. I sensed some optimism in their chances tonight, with the possibility that the Vikings are starting their routine fall from excellency. On the contrary, I see another broken QB and a runaway game for the second week in the row. As much as I hate the Bears, I’m almost to the point of feeling they don’t deserve this shit.
Well that’s a trade that makes little sense for the Pats. Even if they’re not going to resign him, they’d get a compensatory pick themselves since he’s good. So at best they’re, what, losing a 4th round compensatory pick to pick up a third? Seems like such an odd thing to do in the middle of a super bowl run.
Presumably the Browns have confirmed he will sign a new contract for them otherwise there’s no point in renting someone for the second half of a dumpster fire.
That was my first thought but correct me if I’m wrong but if we lose him to a high enough dollar contract wouldn’t we end up with an extra 3rd or 4rth in 2018 in the way of a comp pick for him?
While I think The Cowboys would be better served at QB with a healthy Romo this year, to be fair to Prescott that was his worst game this year. If he can continue to grow I feel a lot better about the future.
