Well, half my happiness occurred when the Bengals bowed out of their playoff appearance gracefully, but New England apparently decided to turn into the Rams today, which means unless there is a huge comeback, the Ravens will play again next week.
Boo.
This is comically bad by New England. (Not that I’m a big fan of the Pats either.)
I turned the game off in disgust. I had no illusions of the Patriots even making it to, let alone winning, the Superbowl, but I had at least hoped they could make it one game into the postseason.
And it’s not like we can blame it on the absence of Welker, either. The defense is lazy, the offensive line is full of holes, and Brady is playing like he’s wearing a blindfold.
The part of me that HATES the Ravens is upset by the poor performance New England is putting on. The part of me that hates the Patriots is quite enjoying the suffering of Belichick and Brady.
I thought the Pats would at least show up today. It’s not like them to look this torpid. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see thm turn thing around and make it a game, but they need to make something happen quickly.
Looks like they just did.
Funny, yesterday Marvin Lewis challenged twice early when he shoudn’t have. Today, Harbaugh fails to challenge when he should have. The mind of the NFL coach is a difficult thing to figure out.
The coach decides to challenge most of the time based on advice from the guy upstairs who has seen some of the replay footage from TV. Harbaugh wasn’t anywhere near that play to have seen it well enough himself.
Exactly. The fact that he didn’t challenge should be blamed on his staff, not on him. Surely they had time to see what the viewers saw before the subsequent New England snap.
This nails it. The HC usually does not have the ability to see what happened for himself, and has to rely on advice from ustairs (which can sometimes come in too late to be useful), or assurances from players (“I caught it, I caught it!”) which is not always reliable.
If the Ravens end up losing this game, someone needs to kneecap the coaching staff, especially the defensive coordinator.
This has been a pattern with the Ravens for the past few years. They have an awesome defense, but whenever they get a decent lead the defensive calls become extremely conservative, giving up on the blitz and on all the things that make the Baltimore D so great. Instead, they just sit back and let the opposition pick them off 5 or 6 yards at a time.
