NHL April 2018 & post-season

For practice?

I’ve never heard of a packed rink for practice.

Excellent to hear of the enthusiasm. Meanwhile I hear, here and there, on tv, the internet, and whatnot, fellow Canadians griping along the lines of “aaaaa, after a Knights’ game is over they’ll immediately forget about the game as soon as they walk outta there.”
There’s so many ways I could address that goofy pettiness, but suffice it to say:

Who gives a flying turtle’s fuck if the fans don’t have the knowledge of a Habs crowd (one of the butt-hurt complaints I’ve heard). They’re enjoying an upstart winning team; kinda neat that all they know, so far, is winning, while toadstools up here bemoan not having seen a Cup on this side of the border since '93, which, while not being the rosiest picture, more or less comes across to me as jealousy when they somehow try to conflate it with the VGK’s success. Don’t blame McPhee for the brilliant way he’s been handling matters.

Neat - so McPhee’s up against his old team from last year. I’ll bet he’s bit-chompin’. No way should any sane person put, like, any money on this series. I wouldn’t put it past VGK to be down 3-0 and come back to bring the series to 7. (ok - an extreme longshot, sure, but I’ve been seeing a couple longshots already this season.)

The schedule for the finals is a travesty. Vegas gets iced for over a week? They’re going to be very rusty by the time the finals start.

Holtby has third best all-time playoff GA at 2.01 (min. 50 games) and second best all-time play-off sv. pct. at .930 (min. 35 games)

Uh, wow.

Minor correction. McPhee was fired by the Caps in 2014 and he worked for the Islanders briefly before being hired by Vegas a year before they started play.

:smack:

Thanks.

How are his and Fleury’s stats for this post season?

Yeah Fleury’s been on fire, eh? After three rounds - 1.68 /.947. Like I was saying earlier, should be a shoo-in for the Conn Smythe. The all-time list, though - 38th, at 2.53 / .913, which most teams would be more or less happy with.
Hotlby’s not doing too shabbily (awesome adverb of the day) at 2.04 / .924*, and because of hislikeness to Kevin Pillar, it’ll be interesting to see if he maintains those numbers next round.

Please don’t ask me to explain.
fucking jesus: fucking Monday

Let’s go to the quarry and throw stuff down there! That is bizarre and I would never have known it had you not pointed it out. Now that you have, I can’t unknow it (of course; that was prolly your point, eh).

I can’t deal with the head-exploding undertaking of posting a pic here, so just click on the top-left box (Fleury) here.
(requires a click on next page too, to eventually see the puck-juggling gif)

Today’s feel-good piece about the Knights:

It was at least 800 people on Thursday. The line to get in went out the building and around the corner, and judging by how long it took people to file in, it went down the side of the arena and maybe around the back corner too. I’m pretty sure that every spot in the parking lot was taken for about 90 minutes.

So is Vegas holding watch-parties for home games too or just away ones? And do they charge, or is like in Pittsburgh, where you can just show up and watch on the lawn, aka “Mario’s TV”.

(Apparently the league wasn’t too thrilled when Mario first did that!)

There’s an enormous video wall hanging in the T-Mobile Pavilion (outside the Arena) where people can watch for free. Henderson Pavilion is a fantastic outdoor setting with seating for a couple thousand; they’ll host a party. And City National Arena, where the team practices, will host a watch party as well.

I have no money riding on the outcome of this series (or any single game, even) but I’'m gonna go ahead and make a prediction in the spirit of a giddy, ridiculously overconfident fan: Knights in 4. And Fleury only gives up 3 goals in the entire series.

Wow, I only caught a little bit of the first, but both teams are on fire. I don’t envy the goalies.

The ice is in terrible condition.

Fleury scores for the Caps!

And the refs score for vegas.

woot

I must say I did not expect 10 goals in the first game.
