NHL April 2018 & post-season

They put a Knights jersey on the Statue of Liberty at New York New york today; it’s hilarious!

The Blue Jackets were amazing last night. In the first period, Josh Anderson of the Jackets gets a 5 minute major for boarding as well as a game misconduct. The Caps immediately score two goals during the power play, and Tortorella has an unsuccessful challenge on the first one, burning the timeout.

But, the Jackets persevere, even with two ugly injuries. Nick Foligno takes a puck to the face, but manages to return but Alexander Wennberg is ruled out for the game.

Jackets win in OT, on the road. A great start for them as I thought it was over after the game misconduct and Washington seemed to be able to score at will.

Alain Vigneault, perhaps?

Just got home from a hockey party; about half of us made it to the end of the game, where there was much whooping and hollering, but kinda quiet because it was so freaking late.

I’d just like to take this opportunity to point out that the Knights have never been scored on in OT in the post-season and have won every post-season game that has gone to OT.

Congrats also to Winnipeg on their 2nd post-season win; must feel great after nearly two decades as a franchise to finally get those wins. Good job, Jets!

I got off work 30 minutes ago. I was so busy all day I only listened to the last 1.1 seconds of the 2nd period. The whole drive home, I’m stopping myself from checking the final score at every red light. I get home, boot up my machine and check the score-

I predict that Las Vegas will be the first team to advance to the 2nd round of this year’s playoffs. Anyone wanna bet against me?

I don’t think I’ve ever won a bet in my life otherwise I’d take you up on it. Pretty safe bet at 3 - 0, and very impressive if they pull off a sweep to have them good and rested for the next round.
Last night’s game in Philly was almost as dreary as game one - even the second game they won was totally spiritless for Stanley Cup level of play, with no finished checks and the only scoring opportunities seemed to be the goals themselves (not to mention Sid’s ridiculous gimme, missing that open goal right by the side of the net, in period one of game 2.)

Hoping for continued success for the Jets.

Okay, it looks like we got cocky in Game 2, but things seemed to have gotten back on track in Game 3.

And Washington is 0-2 to Columbus! I love it!
(BTW, you’d really think that opponents would learn NOT to chant “Crosby Sucks!” by now. Since that’s usually when he scores – hasn’t anyone ever noticed that?)

Finally got a chance to see a Jets game.
Beauty seeing them go up 3-1, heading back to Winterpeg/Windypeg.
Bufgylen and his 266 ungainly, vaguely terrorizing pounds of crushing destruction:
A very beautiful, beautiful thing.

As I type this - 2nd OT about to start between Caps and Blue Jock-Itch, who I wouldn’t be surprised if they go up 3-0. There’s a part of me that’s been wanting to see Ovie hoist the Cup, but I’m not betting the villa on it - he hasn’t even made it to a conference final, IIRC.

Knights sweep the Kings!

It’s truly embarrassing that the NHL is broadcasting playoff games on the Golf Channel! Why? I understand using CNBC and USA network as there are multiple games per night in the first round. They do this in the Olympics as well. CNBC’s programming doesn’t even register in the ratings after the markets close.

Even more embarrassing - the Flyers tonight were ass.
Not expecting them to take the series, but putting in the milquetoast showing that they put in tonight, AT HOME, AGAIN, manoman…

Great numbers Fluery put up in the sweep over LA: .977 sv pct. and a ZERO.65 GA.
I’m happiest for Gallant, especially how he had to skidaddle out of Florida, and then has rebounded so amazingly, like this. Having a great hockey mind like George McPhee at the helm also doesn’t hurt. Looks like they’re most likely matching up against San Jose, currently leading 1-0 in the 2nd, and up 3-0 in games.

At least this next round they’ll finally be airing some VGK games in my area.

Flyers were lucky they caught the Pens on an uninspired night. Couturier was a beast, and playing hurt, too, which is why he played significantly less minutes than the previous games, but was the difference-maker, scoring the winner with 1:10 left in regulation, and then winning the last two face-offs after that. He got in a freak collision in practice a couple days ago and had to miss game three, and tonight I saw him wincing on the bench with whatever the lower-body injury is.
Flyers: please keep Neuvirth* in. That glove save against Sid, right at the very end, was pretty special - bringing his glove not just up, but forward, further cutting off the close-in shot. Not crazy about the show-off-y glove-held-high thing, which in rare instances can bite one in the ass (re: Roy), but whatevs - one of the finest and clutch saves I’ve seen in a while.

Great seeing the Jets handily taking it to the Wild, who were hobbled by missing their two main players - forward Parise and defenseman Suter, who plays an insane amount of minutes. Winnipeg will most likely play Nashville next round, which I hope to catch a game or two of that series - both rinks are very intimate and intense - would kill to go see a playoff final in either one.

*Can’t believe I’m saying that, but manoman that Elliot wastrel…

I look forward to seeing the Leaves swept away Saturday night. I like seeing leaves blown away.

Well, OK, it won’t literally be a sweep, it would be 4-1.

The Flyers was game was fun but the Colorado game was something else: boring as fuck hockey for 55 ½ minutes and holy-shit-i-hope-i-wasn’t-the-only-one-still-watching hockey for the last 4 ½ minutes. The Colorado radio guys were going crazy! I thought the pbp guy was gonna blow his vocal chords out when they tied it up and then I was sure he was going to when they scored again (spoiler: he didn’t).

I have a ton of new respect for Bobrovsky; he was freaking fantastic in the 3rd and in OT. Particularly in OT, since his teammates seemed mostly determined to somehow win in OT thru defense, and then largely left that up to him.

I’d love to see CBJ pull out a game 6 win; I’ll be rooting for them Monday.

That was an excellent game, only ruined by the Caps winning in OT. I’ll be wearing a 2001 original Blue Jackets jersey on Monday, it gets worn very rarely.

The Bruins had every chance to win that game. Hell, the entire 3rd period the Leafs just sat back on their heels (and poorly at that).

The Leafs were outshot by the Bruins more than 2 to 1. They were saved by Andersen. The Leafs – who have a long history of management that doesn’t give a shit about winning because they’re rolling in money, and the ability to buy whatever money can buy to keep the money machine going – have a history of unmotivated second-rate teams saved by star goalies. But that only goes so far. Monday night should be interesting.

Oh man, we BETTER do well tomorrow, I don’t think I could stomach a Game 7 – or worse. (And Malkin might not play!) Hornqvist may come back, though – that would make me so happy!

God, I hate the Flyers so fucking MUCH. If I knew how to put a curse on them, I would, that’s how much I hate them.

I didn’t think the Leafs could do it. Now I’m curious.

If they win game 6 back at home, anything could happen in game 7, right? Right,?
