NHL April 2018 & post-season

You mean, this kinda cursin’?:stuck_out_tongue:

Surprised to hear about Malkin. Apparently it’s a leg issue, which most likely occurred from this play. Some say Malkin tried to sloughfoot him - I’ll concur.

Wow - considering that in their past five postseason games at Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers are 1-4 and have been outscored 18-4, it would be kinda nice if that kinda shitty trend could come to an end tonight, but I won’t deprive myself of oxygen over that.

More like this . (Where are Paulsen and Krenn when we need them?)

Oh my god, I thought I was going to throw up. Thank GOD for Jake Guentzel. On to Round 2!!! 3ELIEVE!!! :D:D:D

(Love the Flyers fans throwing beer cans. Stay classy, Philadelphia. Stay classy)

That’s great! I like the
“I was alive and I waited, waited
I was alive and I waited for this” soundtrack.

Yeah after Letang’s trip on Couturier, I thought, nooooo - fans won’t go throwing shit over this, will they? I deleted the game and then find out afterwards that they littered the ice. I ‘get’ octopi and Leafs jerseys, but throwing all sorts of crap like bracelets on the ice and especially half-full beer cans at the Pens bench - super duper shitty. Dangerous, troggy. Never been to Philly, but was curious to catch an Eagles game sometime, given the interesting fan base.

Especially when those beers are what, ten bucks a piece? Jesus.
(Oh, and that’s “Right Here, Right Now” from Jesus Jones. Good tune)

I was pretty sure that the playoffs started a week or so ago, but neither the Sharks nor the Golden Knights have played in several days, and looking at the schedule going forward, I don’t see another game for either of them anywhere…
I understand that having two teams meeting, both of whom swept their previous series, doesn’t happen very often…but you’d think that it would be in everyone’s best interest for them to pick a date for the next round to start, already.

The brackets have to proceed in a (more or less) even progression so that the Knights/Sharks series will start at the same time as all the other teams in that (2nd) bracket round, and unfortunately there are still two series (Leafs/Bruins, Caps/CBJ) that have yet to be determined for that round.

Yeah, it’s a drag for the delay (where some argue the merits of rest - especially from injury - while others argue the setbacks of too much lack of continuity leading to rustiness), but what would have been much worse is if the Knights/Sharks series did proceed, say, last Thursday, and was also settled in four straight, resulting in a bracket sent even further out of skew, especially if Caps/CBJ go seven: a game which wouldn’t be until this Wednesday.

In the previous post I should’ve ended that as “…especially if Caps/CBJ AND BRUINS/LEAFS go seven…”

I don’t have any sloth in the race, but it’d be nice to see Thornton back in the Sharks line-up, but he’s a definite no for game one.

I had a vision, and that vision said Leafs in 7.

Rules vary but one year the Caps did not allow the caps on soft drink bottles in the arena during playoffs. I sort of understand. A small piece of white plastic on the ice could be more dangerous than something easier to see.

Wow; go Leafs!

A plastic bottle without a cap is just a flask; the cap gives it structural integrity which allows it to maintain internal pressure, which is gonna hurt a lot more than if the cap was off and the pressure could be expended there instead of on somebody’s noggin. So that may be a reason for the rule as well.

I’m picking the Knights in 5 over San Jose, btw.

It’s the 5-year anniversary of Boston’s comeback over the Leafs, and the 25-year anniversary of Nikolai Borschevsky’s OT goal in Detroit. You can probably guess which one I’d like to see the Leafs repeat.

I remember both games like yesterday. Nick’s OT goal was tremendous.

Anything can happen in game 7. The Leafs suddenly have the momentum.

As a Sharks fan, I’d love for them to win. But I have to admit, I think the Knights are better.

What? No comments about the Leafs’ spectacular meltdown last night?

Look, the Leafs are a team that I love to hate, but this fiasco is not the outcome I would have wanted. It has definite shades of 2013, when they came to Boston for another Game 7. In that one, they battled their way to a 4-1 lead going into the third, then got lazy and fell apart. The Bruins tied the game and sent it to overtime, where they scored their fourth consecutive goal, dispatching the Leafs out of the playoffs and into the history books for allowing the greatest opponent comeback in NHL playoff history.

And here they were again. This time they did it differently. Instead of blowing a 3-goal lead, they blew three separate one-goal leads, going into the third leading 4-3 and getting thrown out of the playoffs with a decisive 4-7 trouncing.

We’re now going on 14 years since the Leafs even got beyond the first round of the playoffs. Number of years since they won the Stanley Cup: 51. Over half a century. At that time, there were just 7 teams in the league, not 31. It might be more accurate to say: number of times Leafs have won the Stanley Cup since the modern expansion era: zero.

To be fair, with vast pots of money to throw around they did bring in arguably the best coach in the league, and are in the process of rebuilding with some talented young players. And they did have a great regular season. But the Leafs have a long history of collapsing when it really matters.

Six teams. That is the reason for all the mentions of the ‘Original Six’.

:smack:

Of course. I have no idea how “seven” got into my brain! “The Magnificent Seven”? The Group of Seven? “Seven Days in May”? “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”? And we also have the original seven deadly sins, original seven astronauts, and the original seven wonders of the world!

TBH, it was probably the “7” in 1967 that threw me off, the year the Leafs won the Cup and then the year of the first expansion.

After seeing that unbelievably shitty Jake Debrusk goal to put the Bruins ahead in the third, I’m like - great, here we go again.
They had a relatively respectable season, though, so hopefully Babcock will be able to build on that next season.

That was another epic collapse. I almost feel bad for Leafs fans. Almost…
