NHL April 2018 & post-season

No reason to feel sorry. The Leafs have a young team and are still only a couple of years into the rebuild.
There will be playoff hockey in Toronto next year.

They got beat by a better team.

Having to pick between the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins is like choosing to root for Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. I guess I’ll pick Washington, since there is no greater hell than listening to that awful Pittsburgh radio crew.

The Western Conference is where it’s at, anyway. Nashville vs Winnipeg is going to be epic and I hope the Golden Knights crush the Sharks.

Excuse me?!?! Mike Lange is a fucking LEGEND! He’s been with the Pens since the 70s – he used to be on TV, but then Fox Sports (Now AT&T Sports) fired him, and they moved him to the radio. The Pens wouldn’t be the same without him!
And surely you’re familiar with Phil Bourque?
And you call yourself a hockey fan!

Hm, let me guess - Bo is too busy partying his kiester off to post a most impressive Knights’ beheading of the Sharks 7-0 in game one, a tally which I believe equaled the total amount of goals the Knights scored in the previous round. Credit to the Knights from keeping Fluery getting tested too much. (Well, compared to how much Jones was getting tested.:p)

And should I say the same for Guin? :stuck_out_tongue: Quite the comeback in the third for the Pens, down two goals, and then in a 4:49 span pop in three goals to take game one.

How could there not be a Pens/Knights final?

I stumbled through my door after midnight, feeling like Shel Silverstein should write a song about my exploits.

I know 2 people who lost their voice, one in the first period yesterday.

And of course now I have to re-stock before the first of the month; thank Og I can just go to the store these days.

That was a good hockey night!

Ugh, that was painful. I had to turn the TV off before the end of the game.

Do NOT jinx things!!! For now, we have to concentrate on Round 2, please.

Quite frankly, a Pens/Knights final might make me kind of sad, sorta. I don’t know if I’d like to face Fleury like that. :frowning:
But that’s not the concern right now – it’s Washington. And Jake Guentzel is an absolute genius! Plus he looks just like Beavis. How can you NOT love someone who looks like Beavis?

I usually don’t really recognize those alleged resemblances, but I Googled him and … holy crap! The first thing that went through my head was “I am the Great Cornholio!”

“I am the Great Guentzholio!”

ETA: Keep it up, Jets!

That was awesome! Good job, Winnipeg!

Going into the series I was amazed at how many people said the Leafs have no chance and would be swept. I’m not even a Leafs fan and would always tell them they were insane, that of course they had a chance. They took the Bruins to seven games despite getting mediocre play from their goalie, and that’s saying something.

“Mediocre play”? I was remarking to someone during one of the playoff games that it’s Andersen who’s been saving their bacon. He had some impressive performances during the playoffs, though he’s not always consistent. He wasn’t great in Game 7, but neither were many other Leafs.

But look at the stats. Rask had a .917 save percentage for the past season with the Bruins and .899 during the round 1 playoffs. The Leafs’ Andersen did .918 during the season and .896 during the playoffs. They’re both great career goalies with very similar records. I’m actually surprised that Rask had slightly better stats during the playoffs as the games that I saw (I didn’t see the entirety of all of them) gave me the impression that Andersen was stopping a lot more shots.

In any case, Andersen wasn’t the problem. Some of the games that the Leafs won had the Bruins outshooting them by a significant margin, and he was totally the star of those games.

Woot!

phew!

I’m happy for you, man.

Caps are mad; they’re not gonna let the Pens win tonight.

And hey hey: go Jets!

ETA:

Thanks! This season has been the most fun I’ve ever had as a hockey fan and I know that the Knights have created a huge new number of fans and interested countless more in the sport just because of their story. That’s a good opening season for the team, the city and the sport so in my book this has been the most successful sports league expansion ever.

Woot! Called both games tonight!

The Caps win was a great comeback, but the Jets win was a fucking amazing turnaround!

Good job, y’all!

Great games tonight, both of them. Ovie’s baseball bat goal to win the game will get a lot of attention, as well it should, but… Backstrom’s pass to set it up. Man, that was a thing of beauty.

Waiting to hear if that rotting piece of shit Tom Wilson will get something for that blatantly illegal hit to Zack Aston-Reese. (“Shoulder-hit” my ass. Last time I checked, your jaw isn’t located on your shoulder)

ETA: 3 game suspension. I’d have given him at LEAST the rest of the series, given he’s a repeat offender, but it’s better than I expected.

His season should be over, IMO.
