NHL April 2018 & post-season

Go Jets!

For tonight, I mean! Because from here on out, it’s all about the Knights!

Anyone doubt that this is the start of a new era for the NHL after this latest sign?

And yeah, I agree it was kinda sad when Rinne left the ice; he’s awesome.

GO KNIGHTS GO!

I wouldn’t mind seeing Ovi get a cup.

But I suppose I’m obligated to cheer for Winnipeg.

I’m the opposite – I do NOT want Ovi to get a Cup. That’s the LAST thing I want.
(Yes, I know Washington wasn’t going to be our bitch forever. It still stings)

I’m afraid Ovi’s gonna get Barkleyed.

Gettin’ ugly there in Tampa. Think it might be a trap?

I think Stamkos deserves a Cup more than Ovi. And I’m loathe to see Wilson’s name on it.

This’ll be an extremely awesome Western Final.

How common is it for any sports teams to do what VGK does when they exit the dressing-room and all do different, individual high-fives with Bellemare?
Pretty hilarious - cool!

Another thought that could be in any sports thread -
There has to be a new word for when you’re watching a PVR’ed game (doesn’t matter what sport) and you absentmindedly decide to go online for some background info or stats on a particular player that you’re watching at the time, and in the process, you come across the score of that game.
IMMEDIATE ruination.
I can no longer watch a game if I become aware of the score.

Queing some Mr. Smartypants quipping “Um, ‘absentminded’?” in 3…2…1…

Caps ground Lightning! Holy crap what a performance from Washington!

Great game! Total Caps domination in the first two. They came out so fast and strong, that was fun. They were outplayed in the third, but not totally dominated the way the Caps did in the first two. Holtby looked strong. I don’t think either of the Lightning goals can be held against him too much. Maybe the Palat goal, but that was a hard, perfectly placed slap shot. Not too many goalies stopping that one.

And without Backstrom! I hope he is healthy and back very soon, though.

Hoping for Caps-Jets…

While I’m disappointed at the outcome, it’s only the first game. Also, I freaking love Chris Kunitz. (That and the butthurt Caps fans whining. Karma’s a bitch, ain’t it?)

Veteran players making team changes to chase a triply is not unheard of but the idea that someone deserves a cup without his team winning it is hilarious to me.

Grats on the win, Winnipeg. Y’all were the better team today.

Knights had almost no “situational awareness” at all on the ice; for instance, Smith letting Laine move freely behind him, instead of clogging the lane or hassling Laine.

Fleury: stay in the fucking net. Rolling around on the ice outside the blue isn’t at all what we want or need from a goalie. Going behind the net when two opponents are coming to challenge for the puck is also not a good idea. Stay in the fucking net.

Gosh, Bo, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an ardent fan of a team congratulate an opposing victor like that. Kudos.

Heh, Hellebuyck did almost the exact same thing in the third, leaving the net wide open. VERY luckily for the Jets, there were no Knights around as the puck came out in front of a completely wide open net.

Close call on that third Jets goal. It was allowed for the reason that the puck was already heading into the net before Fleury could’ve been able to lateral over to it, however I disagree with that: if his stick hadn’t been interfered with, to begin with, he would’ve easily been able to slide over in time.

Watching last night’s game shows me that Mr. Crosby is very much missing Mr. Reaves, I’ll healthily wager. If the guy can send Byfuglien flying, of all people, then players like Marchessault and Karlsson shouldn’t worry too much about getting marauded anywhere near as much as goal-scorers on other teams.

Expecting a stronger showing from VGK tomorrow.

Missed edit window (heh - again) to footnote that while the Penguins do have Oleksiak, I believe he’s not really doing the job that Reaves did.
(Guin - you’d know better and fell free to correct me on that)

I’m not sure how to take this. I was sincere in my post. The sincerity of your post, however, is somewhat undercut by the “slow clap” video you linked, as that is usually an insincere or sarcastic action, indicating that the sentiment expressed in words was, ah, inaccurate.

It really seems like both Las Vegas and Winnipeg are teams of destiny this year. I think the series is going 7 games and Winnipeg will win by virtue of home ice.

Vegas looks distinctly less impressive than Winnipeg to me, and I’ll be really impressed if they survive to 7 games.

Really? I always thought the golf clap was a genuine thing, but if it’s generally known as sarcasm then I definitely retract posting it.

As someone who’s seen many dozens of Knights games: that was one of the most sluggish performances the team has given thus far.

Aye, me too. Everyone in the valley too, actually.

Oh; then thank you. [/bow]

The Jets have had a terrific season, gaining strength and focus as the season went on. They didn’t have 5 days off, so they were simply playing another game of hockey where the Knights were playing in The First Game Of A Series. Knights were rusty, clanky and awkward as a result while the Jets flew like a well-seasoned precision machine.

I have no problem acknowledging a defeat by an honorable & worthy opponent, and the Jets are definitely that.

Hopefully the Knights can get their heads back in the right space before the game starts tomorrow night.
