NHL April 2019/ Playoff Thread

Sundquist was simply going in to finish his check like any other player would - Grzelcyk turned to face the boards at the last second, which is wrong, making himself totally vulnerable for what happened to him, and leaving no time, at all, for Sundquist to make any adjustment as he came into Grzelcyk. Obviously it was shitty what happened to Grzelcyk, but the refs made the correct two-minute penalty call.

I struggled with the replay for quite a while and I have to agree with you, G-s: Id. I didn’t see him throw an elbow, in fact it looked like it was his shoulder that actually made contact. And it all came from the awkward way that Grzelcyk went in to the boards with his head down and off-balance and the way he came up just as Sundqvist got to him. Helluva smack for Grzelcyk, but I didn’t think it was conscious effort on Sundqvist’s part that caused it.

[/shrug]

I also agree.

Stay classy St Louis…We got this.

Blues are a DEEP team both on O and D.

One game without Oscar will NOT be the end of the series.

Lets Go BLUES.

FFS. Game 3 of this series and game 2 of the NBA finals are on at the same time.

Well, you really only need to watch the last 2 minutes of the basketball game anyway.

I know which game Charles Barkley will be watching!

Actually Ike, the NBA game is Sunday night, my friend just told me. I verified on TSN: hockey tomorrow, and Raptors on Sunday.

Yeah, I see that now. It really didn’t make sense that the games would be on opposite each other.

I don’t see an elbowing either. But isn’t it boarding regardless of what part of Sundqvist lead the hit?

Na. Boarding is more of “a leave your feet to fuck someone up.” This was just a normal check where the person being checked turned awkwardly at the last second.

It became boarding when Grzyclek got himself off-balance and out-of-control, apparently:

BUT, the rule does note:

2018/2019 NHL Rulebook (.pdf, natch)

Krug “left his skates” a LOT more than Oscars hit…

But All will be well…

Lets Go BLUES

What I found way more concerning was when Krug first lost his helmut, and the multiple instances where he could’ve taken a skate blade to the head/face area.
Saw a hilarious tweet of side-by-side photos of Krug going airborne, and Bobby.
NHL is now considering a rule that you immediately come off the ice after losing your helmut. Like the broken stick rule - immediately dropping it - a good one.
For boarding, another major determinant is simply whether or not you hit him squarely on the numbers.

Nine seconds left in the first period. Boston did NOT have control of that puck as it crossed the line.

Why was that not brought back as offside?

I believe that he did have control of the puck. Of course I am a Stars fan and Hull had control of the puck as well (1999).

I remember that non-goal well.

Something I was wondering… Blues were down 5-2 halfway thru the third period and were playing 4 on 3 after a couple penalties… why not pull the goalie and have a 5 on 3 advantage for the duration of the power play? What have you got to lose at that point?

Good point.

I am late to game 3 comments cause I was getting my ass kicked at work last night.

OT (I am GM at a very popular St Louis Pizzeria, NY style not St Louis style)

Damn…Where the fuck were the heads of the blues players last night? (semi rhetorical question)

I LOVE the Blues…but, Come on boys, that is not SCF play!

Lets Go Blues
