NHL April 2019/ Playoff Thread

Hey, it’s delayed here in the U.S., and they didn’t censor it either! God I love the Stanley Cup!

They’re not booing O’Reilly – they’re booing Bettman. It’s tradition. I guarantee you there are St. Louis fans booing as well. I really, really wish they’d get someone other than Bettman to present the Cup and the Conn Smythe, it’s a disgrace. Not so much the booing, but because he’s a disgrace to the league and to hockey in general.

Yeah, they could have been booing Bettman, I guess.

Hhehehe, and O’rielly’s joy goes out live on US TV, too.

Oh, definitely. It happens every single year.
(Yay Borts!!! Love seeing a former Pen win!)

OH, and Phil’s staying!!! YAY!!!

Now that the St Louis sports scene is owned by the hockey team and not baseball, maybe that will be enough to force the Cardinals to drive John Mozeliak out of a job.

“I’m John Mozeliak, and I’m a genius.”

Nope, not since LaRussa left you’re not.

The saint louis blues are your 2019 stanley cup champs!

Hehehe, and after commercial break, they apologized for the “exaltation language”.

Now that’s all 6 expansion teams.

And don’t get me wrong – while Bobby Orr is one of my favorite players of all time, I’d love to see a picture of him and Glenn Hall together right now. Hall’s gotta be feeling pretty good right now. (Yes, I know he has a few Cups of his own)

I agree, for so many reasons. As far as acting as the face of the NHL, Bettman possesses a kind of smarmy anti-charisma – you know, there are people who are great on the public stage that you just naturally like; Bettman you just naturally want to punch in the face. And his mismanagement of the league has included depriving major hockey-hungry Canadian markets like Hamilton and Quebec City of new Canadian teams while going nuts with US expansion, much of it in places that don’t give a shit about hockey.

Bettman works for the owners, not the fans. The owners are completely satisfied with Bettman and what he’s done with the league.
Your opinion is incorrect and ill- informed. As usual

Was in high school when the team was formed. Never thought I’d be a retired senior citizen when they finally won the Cup. I remember The Arena fondly too. I hope Gus Kyle and Dan Kelly are somewhere enjoying this! Fireworks are going off around town. Congrats Blues!!

That’s just it though – the OWNERS. They don’t seem to give a shit about the fans, or hell, even the players. It’s all about money.

Three lockouts under one dude, including cancellation of an entire season? That shouldn’t have happened. The guy’s a joke. (Although he’s not quite as bad as Goodell)

The Golden Seals/Barons never won anything. So it’s 5 out of the remaining 5, right?

Blues
Penguins
Flyers
(North) Stars
Kings
Seals

The other expansion teams (Sabres, Canucks, Capitals…) came later.

Next season* starts 4 October in Prague!

*Next season is 102, right?

Anyone but Boston!

It depends how you want to count it. The Seals merged with the North Stars - both were failing financially -who later won as the Dallas Stars.

Heh - more PVR problems, and by the time I discovered it, there was four minutes left in the game. When I saw 4-0, I yelled out Ho-lee Shit!!! Not expecting that, like, at all.
What an amazing story, what the Blues accomplished since January. Gives hockey lovers a warm glow. (well, unless you’re a Bruins fan right now, I spose.)
Ha - the screen filling up with Marchand sad-face:( :); wouldn’t, for a second, have put it past him to sneak in chirps during hand-shake - one of the Blues looked back at him after they shook hands. Never seen that before.
Also enjoyed the f-bomb (heh, which rhymes with Klefbom!).

That’s right, I forgot about the Seals. Well, the remaining teams, and the oldest team not to win one.

I imagine we’ll be hearing more f-bombs on TV when they televise the parades, just like we did from Ovi and Jonathan Quick.

Of course he works for the owners. What the hell is your point? So did the 19th century robber barons work for all their like-minded self-interests. So do modern CEOs conspire with their boards of directors against their own employees and, most of all, against the interests of their customers.

The problem with supporting only the owners and profit above all else is that in the long term it’s counterproductive to the whole enterprise. It’s pissed off the fans and demeaned a sport that used to reflect a valued Canadian cultural tradition, and reduced it to crass commercialism. And it’s prevented deserving and viable hockey markets in Canada from getting teams, because Bettman would rather go after the deserts of Arizona and Nevada instead of the frozen ponds of Quebec and Ontario where hockey was invented.

Did he? I was at a sports bar that was so noisy, you couldn’t hear the TV broadcast at all.

That’s why we couldn’t hear the TV–because everybody in the sports bar was booing Bettman. From some patrons, profanity was also freely used in reference to Mr. Bettman.

So, the Leafs now have the longest Stanley Cup drought.
