Just watch him sometime. Diving, cheap shots, showboating, whining, more diving, all of them on full display in this series. Damn talented player, but never learned sportsmanship.
BTW: Who is that girl the Canadiens have screeching the US anthem before their games? My ears are still bleeding.
Oh, you said US anthem! Sorry. I got confused. Yes, you are correct, and I don’t know who the girly was. Some new recording artist, I think.
ETA: Sara Diamond (Yeah, me neither)
Amen to this. I’ve spent all season watching the Wild on the local FSN where the guys covering the game know every player, how they’ve been performing all season, and if they’re playing up to par. Then I get these NBC doofs who can’t even get the players names right. Michael Grandlund? STFU.
I don’t mind Carlyle. The Leafs had a great season, and a spectacular meltdown in March. Part of this was due to Bernier being injured, but I get that teams need to find a way to win through injuries.
It had very little to do with Bernier being injured. The Leafs played atrociously and would undoubtedly have melted down even with Bernier being in; they were one of the worst defensive teams in the 30-team period of NHL history.
I’m not a big dan of “well, this team was great when they weren’t losing.” Oer the course of the season the Leafs had 84 points and lost 44 out of 82 games. That’s how good they were. They were unlucky in March, but very lucky earlier. It evened out. They deserved to lose about 44 games, and they did.
The question is whether it’s Randy Carlyle’s fault that they lost 44 games and my inclination is to say it is not. The Leafs iced an absolutely dreadful defensive club, one so bad that it’s very difficult for me to see how any coach could have gotten more than Carlyle did. He didn’t have that much of a hand in choosing their personnel. You can kick a mule in the ass all you want and it won’t win the Kentucky Derby.
I’m selfish. I picked Pittsburgh to win in my hockey pool. As it turns out though, NO ONE picked the Rangers. So, I’m happy for Marty St. Louis as it turns out.
