I feel your pain, but from the other side I dropped Gamecenter because I have both NHL Network and NBCSN. With those channels, I have access to some form of hockey whenever I want it. NHLN is usually showing live look-ins and while I don’t get the whole game, I get moved around from game to game and it is good enough for me.
More importantly, you missed a great ending to a game. As a Jackets fan, the ensuing meltdown by Leafs fans was entertaining. I was not a fan of the Torts hire but he has been everything the Jackets have needed. Coaches usually don’t hang around after a game but seeing him high fiving everyone of the players as they came off the ice is a great moment.
It seems somebody in the US army just opened a sports section for the first time in several years. Army challenging Golden Knights name. Seriously, this didn’t register as an issue 2 years ago?
The team only took the name in November 2016, just over a year ago (cite) and the article tells us:
The bottom line is that Bill Foley is obsessed with his team having the same name (or as close as possible) to West Point’s Black Knights and he simply will not give it up and pick something else.
The IP/naming/creative part of this franchise has been an absolute shitshow from the start, and apparently will not settle down any time soon.
Awesome hockey decisions but not so good in other areas, IMO.
Maybe if Las Vegas could reconsider things and maybe take on more of a Bob Seger theme and re-name themselves the Vegas Hollywood Nights? (sorry Bo - I mean the LAS Vegas Hollywood Nights.)
Great logo - a basic black and white line drawing of Bob’s face. The opening-number-as-teams-file-onto-the-ice could be either “Like a Rock” or “Her Strut”.
I know Bob is a bit of a Detroit homer, so bringing him on board could be asking the moon. (or - agaaaaaiiinst the wind?:p)
I could do without the allstar game and just watch the skills competition, which itself can get pretty camp, but at least nowhere near as painful as watching that half-assed, somnambulistic not-even-a-scrimmage that they call the game. The only thing I care about the break is the voting* and the break the players get - I’d favour a shorter season, really.
*Even the voting, I have to admit, can have its “Girgensons/Scott anomolies”, let’s just say.
The Golden Knights is an incredibly stupid name. I know they weren’t going to have anything to do with gambling, but there are plenty of other nicknames.
I know people thought Blue Jackets was a dumb name and too similar to the Blues, but at least there’s an Ohio connection to Blue Jackets.

Maybe not the most pressing hockey item, but Bruins fans - I feel your pain.
Worry not much longer, though:
Yes, Rene Rancourt will pack it in at the end of the season.
Wow hearing him holding a note always added a few years on my life.
I’m sure Bruins fans will miss his x-mas carolling with the Big Bear in one of the benches during the intermission, and flashing his jacket lining. (“oh how many fist pumps is he gonna do this time?”)
Why does he always have to run back off the carpet?
It should be noted here that legendary hockey writer Red Fisher just passed away at age 91.
What makes him legendary you may ask? The first hockey game he covered was on March 17, 1955. The infamous ‘Richard Riot’ game. He continued to cover the Canadiens until he retired in 2012. 57 years on the beat of the same team, remarkable.
IKR? A team made up of rejects from other teams is leading the league and setting all kinds of records. It’s like watching a movie that takes months and months to play out (until someone makes an actual movie and then it’ll play out in like 90 minutes, tops).
I object to Fleury being referred to as a “reject”. He was let go because they couldn’t afford him anymore with the salary cap. Trust me, nobody wanted to see him go, it just made better sense to keep Murray.
(Dude is going to get the biggest ovation when he returns to Pittsburgh next month, I guarantee)
