NHL - October 2018

changing the seats from red to black will solve all of the Wings’ problems.

My stinkin’ Canucks at least have a shining light with rookie sensation Elias Pettersson, with the second most points ever in Sweden’s top league by a player under the age of 20 under his belt. Not including tonight, he has seven points in his first four games, which no other Swede has done (Sundin in second with five, and with Alfredsson, Forsberg, Zetterberg, The Sedins, and Naslund on the list - not too shabs.) After two periods so far he’s potted another beauty (deflection, after making some awesome passes to set shit up). He looks great out there - just beef him up with another 15 pounds, and you’ll basically have a Sundin, but much more impressive shooter. Already seen a couple beauty one-timers. He’s so composed out there, playing well beyond his years, with creative passing reminding me of…fuck it yeah I’ll say it - 99 himself. If the Canucks come to town, try to catch #40.

Great night! Phil Kessel gets a natural hat trick (I think we should call it a “Kessel Run”), Dan Potash did an interview with Marc-Andre Fleury during the intermission, AND we got the W.

GO PENS!!!

The Washington Capitals have had a weird schedule to start off the season. Last week featured back to back games: Home against the Bruins and then away at Pittsburgh.

This week another back to back. A home crushing of their Cup foe Vegas which was followed by an embarrassing 6-0 loss to the Devils.

Obviously, most of this schedule was demanded by TV as everyone else wants the Cup winners.

Still early in the season, but still quite the sight to see that the NHL’s top four scorers are Leafs.

Bizarre that it’s a Friday night and no games scheduled at all in the NHL. If it was the start of NBA season, that would make sense to not step on their toes. But, NBA starts next week and there’s no reason for the NHL to be dark tonight.

Anyone been to a Washington Capitals game? I’m going to be in DC from November 29-December 3 and there are two home games then.

Is the arena near the Metro? Lower Bowl tickets on Stubhub are expensive, as I’d expect from a Stanley Cup defending team, but there are reasonable prices in the 200 levels and up. I assume I should avoid the 400 level?

Bo! You lucky duck! Today the Knights (barely five games into the season) are already finishing off their longest away stand for the season (five games).
That is a huge weight off any team’s shoulders, going forward into the rest of the season.
Today Fleury made some stand-on-his-head saves for a shut-out win, unfortunately against Philly.

The longer this Nylander thing goes on, the more (I’ll predict) Toronto fans will go “aaaa trade him for a D”.
So, is he worth $6 or $8 million?

Gritty has to go now, yes.

Oh and one more Pettersson stat (promise-ies), and this one just a bit more impressive - after five games, now, only Evgeni Malkin had more points (9 to Pettersson’s 8). On this list there’s, oh - Sid, Alex, Connor, Auston, and (interstingly, cooly) Patrik Laine.

The Leafs have offered Nylander a fair contract. If he doesn’t sign, too bad. The Leafs don’t need him anyway.

It sounds like daddy has his fingers in the pie. Good luck Willie. You won’t get $8M on any other team and you’re losing out on a very serious cup-contender team this year.

Bye bye.

ETA: I think I speak for all Leaf fans: trade him now for some defence. Except with his ridiculous salary expectations he seems completely untradeable. Incredibly selfish expectations.

The arena is at a metro stop.

My tickets are in the 400 level. I like it better than the lower level - better view of the whole ice versus great view of the section in front of you. 200 level is the best in my opinion.

Sounds perfect. I’ve sat up at the top for the Florida Panthers and it seemed like people were just there to get drunk and ignoring the play on the ice. It seems pointless to spend the money for a hockey game and then ignore Pavel Bure on the ice.

Is there anything special about the arena to warrant getting there early? Memorabilia or a Ring of Honor?

Not much. There are a few displays on the main floor - hats collected from hat tricks. They renovated this summer so i’m Not sure.

The American Art Museum is across the street. It is one of the few Smithsonian museums open until 7 pm. I frequently kill time there once i’ve parked.

Which games are you considering?

Just realized you have the dates listed.

The American Art Museum sounds perfect. I’m considering the Sunday, December 2 game with a face off at 3 pm. Perhaps a lunch or brunch someplace nearby, a quick trip to the museum, and then catch the game at 3.

Lots of restaurants in the area.

holy shit the Wings are directionless.

Canada makes pot legal nationwide on Wed. the 17th. But NHL is the only major sport that does not punish for a positive pot test.

Caps arena is in Chinatown so if you like Chinese food there are many options.

Speaking of Canada, all six Canadian teams won their games last Saturday! YAAAAY!
(last time was in '89)
Pettersson out 7 - 10 days with concussion.:frowning:

Does the NBA even test for it? And, thanks, Chinese food sounds perfect

I’m predicting a big win for the Knights tonight!
