NHL/Olympic Hockey: February 2010

Man, that was way too close for comfort. Canada looked completely destroyed in those last few minutes… was it Slovakia’s size? Luongo looked timid, and that first goal allowed was an amateur mistake. Throughout this tournament Lu hasn’t really been tested, but I get the feeling that the US will bring it, I am just hoping that he can live up to it. He’s been serviceable so far, and while theoretically Canada’s blue line should be good enough that a serviceable goalie could get them through the tournament, it’s hard to defend when you are getting taken out by your own players :smack: (it happened at least 2-3 times today, not to mention this).

Canada really needs to just explode vs the US like they did against Russia - somehow, that game just every pass was connecting, every chance got buried, every hit that could be taken was taken. I thought they started out well against Slovakia but it wasn’t quite clicking and they definitely weren’t as positionally sound this time around. I think USA is a big enough rival that it can stir the fire in our team to a similar extent to the Russians

Man, poor Slovakia. Second game in a row they had a great flurry at the end of the game to tie, and an open chance at the goal, this time with 1:25 left, but it didn’t quite get in.

But Congrats to the Fins, a well deserved bronze even with the bizarre collapse vs the U.S.

Nobody’s watching Finland vs. Slovakia?

Exciting last period!

Good job, Finland! Pity, my late step-father (from Turku) isn’t around to see it.

I don’t know if this question has been asked yet, but since I’m currently in Paris–Charles-de-Gaulle airport (which is completely full due to the major storm, which lead to several flights, including mine, being cancelled or delayed) and my time is limited, I cannot search. I will be in Marseille in a few hours, and I do not know if I will have an Internet connection, but is there a way to watch the Canada-US game on the Internet? I tried looking at RDS’s website but couldn’t find anything; I figure there must be some network showing the game, somewhere, which offers such a service.

I’ve been watching the Olympics on CTV. I’m on a non-Intel Mac, so I can’t watch their video feeds online (you have to have Silverlight, which you can download), but I suspect you can watch the game at http://www.ctvolympics.ca.

I hope to holy hell that Canada wins. If we don’t, we’re going to have to be subjected a movie called “Miracle on Ice II - The Search For More Ryan’s”.

(There are 6 guys named Ryan on the US team and another guy with Ryan as a surname)

There are also two players named “Brian”.

I just posted this in another thread - we have puck drop!

Glancing from the game to the computer screen and back, I thought you said, ‘We have duck poop!’

Six minutes in, and already it’s exciting.

I should make some strong coffee for my nerves.

This is going to be a damned close game.

Score!

Dammit!

Yeesh.

Canada looks great.

Score!

Still behind, but at least we’re on the board.

Dammit!

One minute to go - Canada still in the lead - the net is empty. Biting my fingernails…Goddammit! Overtime, here we come.

Game tied!

**u s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! U s a ! **

Arggh. Canada’s been way too passive in the last two third periods.

Well, they’re going to have to go on the attack now.

Did I hear that it is going to be 4 on 4 through the overtime?
