NHL Playoffs 2025

I’ll say one thing against the OIlers – I believe their power play record is pathetic, and it was just on full display. Two power plays in a row, with 18 seconds of overlap where they had a 5-on-3. And what did they do with it? Nothing. After the Stars were back to full strength, they came back and scored, now making it 2-1 Oilers.

Dallas actually played well, but ugh no luck in that game.

Dallas did outshoot Edmonton overall, but come on, the game ended 6-1 for the Oilers!

As a sorta kinda lapsed hockey fan – as much as a Canadian can be lapsed – I’m really enjoying this playoff series. The Leafs got kicked out of Round 2 – I only wish it had been out of Round 1, but I’ll take what I can get. The trouncing of the Panthers over the Hurricanes is historic! And now we have a neck-and-neck battle in the Western Conference! This will be fun! We might even have a Canadian team in the Cup Final.

Like…last year? :slightly_smiling_face: Yeah, it’d be nice to see that happen a bit more over the past few years, to be sure.
Oilers managed to somehow scrape by out of that second period when they were outshot by something like 104-3.

I’m under no illusions about the likely outcome of a Panthers-Oilers game in a potential Cup final, but you never know how the puck bounces! I’d just like to see the Oilers get in there and find out!

Yeah. I though the Stars played better in games 2 and 3 than they did in game 1, but like you said, no luck. There are times when the Oilers look like they’re about to completely break down on defense however the Stars have not been able to capitalize.

Yep, the Oilers were lucky enough to capitalize on any mistake the Stars made in the third, and we didn’t make hay out of any of theirs. So it goes.

The Hurricanes/Panthers game tonight was pretty great. I love that Stankoven has had a good playoff run for them, I was sad to see him leave Dallas. Climbing back from 3-0 is almost never done, but blanking the other team is a start.

I missed the first period of Stars-Oilers Game 4, but happily I turned on the TV just as the Oilers scored making it 2-1.

And so it remained in what was a fun game to watch. The Oilers got a power play at 5:00 in the third period but failed to do anything with it. Predictably, as soon as it was over the Stars pulled their goalie. Ha! It was mere seconds before the empty-net goal! And then another one!

This was really a 2-1 game for the Oilers but goes on record as 4-1, and the series stands at 3-1 Oilers. Looks like we’re probably getting a Canadian team in the Cup Final!

This must feel really good for Oilers fans because I remember when not so long ago they were at the absolute rock bottom of the league.

Yep, another good game for the Stars that’s not really reflected on the score card. I hope we can stretch it to a game seven, then we at least went one game further than we did last year.

God, the Stars are almost like the Leafs with their inability to progress during the playoffs… :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

What, no commentary from those much more knowledgeable about current hockey goings-on than myself about the exciting Game 5 of Panthers vs Hurricanes?

Once again I was distracted and tuned in late. Had I watched from the beginning I would have been astounded at Carolina taking a 2-0 lead, but Tkachuck made it 2-1 just as the TV came on.

At 3-2 I thought it might go into overtime, but in a wonderful moment of hockey, with less than a minute left, Sam Bennett found himself alone with the puck behind the empty Carolinas net, and almost casually skated up and popped the puck in. 5-3 Panthers, and on to the Cup finals!

Well, Carolina didn’t bring the game 7 drama I crave, but at least they didn’t get blanked this time. Better luck next time.

Here’s to hoping the Stars can bring some game seven excitement my way! Just gotta win tomorrow, and then string it along another game. Come on, guys!

Maybe they were chatting about their pre-plan to stay off the ice for handshakes? Paul feels the on-ice handshakes should be strictly for players only and Rod agreed to stay off the ice and keep others suits off the ice.

I don’t think I have ever been as disappointed with the Stars as I am right now.

Yikes, agreed. No dog in this fight but I was not thinking I’ll be reading my kindle at a sports bar rather than watching the hockey

Well, ok, we’ve got a game now

It was a good game, and a pretty great season for the Stars. If they keep the core team together, I expect next season will be just as good.

Now, back to rooting for the Panthers in the final. Like @Hampshire , I feel there’s no shame in losing to the cup winners, But I just hate McDavid’s face for some reason, so I can’t root for him.

Do we seriously have to wait until Wednesday for the finals to start? Let’s play Saturday or Sunday
