Nice work-related ego boosts, 2 days in a row.

I had two nice events happen at work that have gone a long way to smoothing over a budding inferiority complex.

I’m a new guy where I work, hired from the outside four months ago. I work with a lot of smart people; half of them have PhDs, and I have only 2 Bachelors.

Yesterday, I was invited to watch a demonstration of something I have little knowledge of. The guy who invited me stuck his head in my office, and asked “Dr. Bob, would you like to see a demonstration?” The Dr. Bob was the ego stroke, because one of two things happened:

1. He knows I have ambitions for a PhD, and I want to be addressed as 'Dr. Bob!
Dr.Bob!' when it happens (for all you youngins, Dr. Bob! Dr. Bob! is a
  *Muppet Show* joke)

-or-

 2. He considers me brainy enough to think I have a PhD already.

Either possibility is fine with me.

The second event happened today. One of the people intimately involved in hiring me told me that I got the offer because out of 100 resumes submitted, I made the cut to the top five based on my skills and experience. Woohoo! What I wouldn’t give for a recording of that to send back to the SOB that laid me off last May.

Getting up tomorrow morning will come a little easier now.

Congrats, Dr. Bob! Don’t let the PhDs intimdate you. They put their pants on both legs at the same time, just like the rest of us.

Personally, I associate more with Dr. Nick.

My new (old) job is in an organization where almost everyone has postgrad degrees, and lots of them are PhDs. I have my BSE. But while they were off pursuing advanced degrees, I worked for a living. I have no ambitions for more education, and no regrets for the path I’ve taken.

But if I did get a PhD, I’d probably walk around wearing a stethoscope.

And congrats for standing out in the field of 100 applicants! That is definitely cool beans! Ain’t it great when everything matches up just right??
