Word is that the director wants Nicole Kidman to play Valerie Plame in the movie to be made about the CIA operative who was “outed” by a newspaper reporter. If she does, it will be one of the few times a beautiful Hollywood actress was in fact not as beautiful as the real-life person she was playing. Actually, I can’t think of any others. Can anyone else?
I think Erin Brockovich is better looking than Julia Roberts. I don’t think Julia Roberts is particularly good looking, though. But IMO Nicole Kidman isn’t anymore either. I thought she was stunning in ‘Dead Calm’ - now, not as much.
I disagree with your assessment of Nicole Kidman. Still, if I were looking for an actress who more closely resembles Plama, I would’ve picked Virginia Madsen.
Also, since the subject was brought up, the real Erin Brockovich looked a lot closer to Meg Ryan than Julia Roberts.
What ever happened to Meg Ryan anyway? I remember she was in a pretty bad movie called In The Cut, but haven’t noticed her appearing in anything since. IMDB says she’s done a few more movies in the last few years; are any of them good?
Meg Ryan’s career slowed down in 2001 for basically the same reason as most actresses’s careers do; she turned 40. In all the films since then she’s been cast as the good-looking older woman roles that women of that age are confined to at best if they’re lucky. (If they’re not lucky, they play the mother of the young heroine.) She also adopted a baby in 2006 which she’s raising on her own. She has three films coming out this year which may revive her career.
She met hairy.
How about ol’ horsey faced Sarah Jessica Parker? Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City is based on Candace Bushnell.
I’d suggest checking out some biopics that portray golden-age Hollywood types. I don’t think Cate Blanchett was as attractive as Katherine Hepburn, for example, in The Aviator, though I’d give Kate Beckinsale a slight nod over Ava Gardner.
Anyone playing Marilyn Monroe.
Sounds to me like “publicity casting.” That’s when the project is in concept stage and they pick a name out of that very small hat of box office godzillas just to make sure the word gets out as far and fast as possible. I’d think all you’d have to do is send a package to Kidman’s agency and write up a press release saying you did so.
As for real serious casting, there can be only one Valerie Plame, and her name is Catherine Keener.
Whoa. I have really never cared enough to check her out, but she is way better looking than Sarah Jessica Parker.
I should have said in my original posting that I was excluding movies about movie stars.
