I watched the latest re-make of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and I honestly never realised up until then what a truly beautiful woman Nicole Kidman is.
Man she is absolutely gorgeous
I got to thinking and also realised that this lady has not been involved, as far I recall, in any scandals involving drugs, booze or whatever.
The film itself The Invasion is pretty much meh but at least it has an ending unlike previous bodysnatcher films.
I’m sorta partial to the prim and proper late 1940’s Nicole Kidman of The Others, myself.
I’ve always been a bit perplexed by the Nicole Kidman haters. She’s one of several actors I’ve seen dissed on this board for their lack of ability that make me quirk an eyebrow. Not that I’ve liked every film she’s been in - for example in the binary world of the Moulin Rouge haters/lovers, I’m a hater. Nor have I liked every role she’s had - she didn’t really have all that much to work with in Billy Bathgate, for instance. But really it seems like the majority of her performances have seemed at least solid and she has seemed to have shown some decent amount of range.
But I’m no actor myself, so maybe I’m missing something.
She is stunning, but in the last few years she’s been botoxed to death. Her forehead never moves and her expression seems quite plastic. She doesn’t need it.
Which is the only possible reason to ever see that movie! Believe it or not, I actually got to the point that I didn’t care if she was naked any more, I just wanted the movie to end.
Range? What range? She does upper class, white, blonde female fairly well. Other than that–I don’t see a range. Renee Zellwegger and Meryl Streep, as well as Susan Sarandon have much, much deeper ranges than Ms Kidman.
And she has lousy taste in men. I won’t go see a movie just because she’s in it. I think she did a good job as Mrs Coulter in The Golden Compass. She’s not as bad as Meg Ryan, who plays herself (or at least the same person) in almost every movie she’s in, but she’s close, IMO. But then, I have little patience with ice queens (being one myself. Heh).
