Well, like I said, I have no problem with people choosing to be insulting, other than I don’t think it’ll work (or at least, I think convincing someone their theories are socially unacceptable is not always a good thing). Go right for it! My problem is when people claim - like the OP - that they very much would like to debate and discuss with the person in question but also insult the hell out of them. Insults alone, go for it. Debating alone, feel free. Offering to debate whilst phrasing it as insultingly as possible just isn’t going to work.

I’m hoping it makes you feel better, because it - as I believe it’s been shown by now - is getting you absolutely nowhere as it comes to “not letting it fly on the SD-goddam-MB”. You’ve cloaked yourself in the reasonability and pursuit of knowledge that is the general idea of the boards (if less so in practical terms), further claimed that you’re acting in the spirit of the SDMB, and then entirely thrown that away for a few cheap insults and cursing. To paint yourself an avatar of ideals, only to throw those ideals away while still saying you embody them, is far more unimpressive in my eyes than simply being wrong.

It’s because she’s pissing on history, and truth, and most importantly the graves of 3,000 innocent people. All because she’s either unfathomably intellectually lazy, or a liar, or has beef with the Bush admin. Take your pick, or make up another reason, none of them justify her behavior. And no matter how much she screams to the contrary, she is attempting to spray her piss onto bystanders by posting links to 9/11 “truth” sites and continuing to snipe talking points. That’s why I’m spewing hate. I hate her and her kind.
Well, I wouldn’t characterise it as stupid, but you certainly seem to think it’s worth of debate. After all, you tried in the IMHO thread, providing counter-arguments and cites. You claimed you were interested in seeing her try to defend *her * claims, so I would guess you are in fact interested.
So yes, I suppose I did rather jump to the conclusion that you wanted to debate her, given that you had said you wanted to and that you had in fact already tried to in IMHO. Call me foolish, but if I see someone claim they want to do something and actually end up doing it as well, I tend to assume that’s what they want.

I’ve seen CTers completely agree 100% with realists just to shut them up, and then turn right around and spit CTs out of the other side of their mouths to people they think will be more receptive. The type of person that is willing to believe this stuff in the face of all logic is going to continue to believe this stuff in the face of all logic for the rest of their life. You have a chance at changing someone who has believed for a few weeks or months - it could be a phase they’re going through - but NightRabbit has admitedly believed for years.
I’ve been involved in the 9/11 debate for awhile now. I was extremely patient, reasoned, calm, and giving with a close personal friend of mine and after several months I still lost him as a friend. You cannot reason a person out of a position that they did not reason themself into. So consider this the George Kaplin approach.
Would you mind elaborating? Unless she’s convinced that all of the people who purportedly died are not in fact dead or never even existed, which I don’t see, I don’t understand how she’s pissing on their graves. They died horribly. They would have died just as horribly, tragically, and unnecessarily whether or not any of her suspicions are true. Hell, if the airplanes had crashed accidentally, they would still have died horribly. How does the motivation or reasoning behind the crashes change that? If she’s pissing on anyone, its the people whose motives she’s impugning, not their innocent victims.
Because to suggest they were murdered by members of the government (or worse, were involved in some planned detonation/missile attack) is just beyond stupid.
That someone could be so stupid is insulting to me as a member of the human race.

I DON’T respect your beliefs! I didn’t respect my friend’s beliefs either - because they’re wrong and offensive - but I had a lot of respect for him and I showed it. I slowly, carefully, peacefully attempted to guide him towards the truth, but just like you he didn’t want to hear it. The fantasy is more fun. It’s more exciting.
I doubt I’ll get an actual answer to this, but here goes: If the goal of the Bush administration in perpetrating a conspiracy on 9/11 was to precipitate a war with Iraq, why didn’t they bother to create some evidence to actually connect Iraq with 9/11? It would’ve made selling the war even easier and avoided that whole distraction of having to first go to Afghanistan and deal with al-Qaeda.

She didn’t think anyone died at the Pentagon. The conspiracists want you to believe this. They want to take the focus off the victims and put it on the government. Many conspiracy arguments implicitly or explicitly require FDNY cooperation. Many of them involve no plane or an empty plane hitting the pentagon. Many of them involve United 93 landing in Cleveland, or some other undisclosed location. This is all grave-pissing.
