Just watched the Season 2 finale for Nikita.
Spoilers below the fold.
This is the prior thread on the show:
First off, it was totally rocking excitement. And they certainly like to turn things on their head. Season 1 ended with Division catching Nikita, and Alex killing Tom to rescue Nikita and protect her cover. That was her graduation to full agent.
This episode was even bigger. We already saw Michael come over to Nikita as a double agent. Now we see
-
Alex told her boyfriend she’s a secret agent and a secret agency is going to kill him if they find out. He didn’t believe her.
-
Jaden shows up, the boyfriend pops off a sarcastic line that tells Jaden he knows, and Jaden and Alex get in a fight that leads to Jaden getting killed.
-
Alex goes in to debrief, gets caught by Amanda because of a bug placed on Jaden. Busted calling Nikita for help.
-
Percy tells Alex that Nikita was the one who shot her dad (why didn’t Nikita tell her that?). He tells her they were hired, points the blame at her father’s number 2 man and “Oversight”, says he was following orders. Turns her kill chip on and sends her back to Nikita wearing a bug and camera to compromise Nikita.
-
Percy activates a plan to attack the CIA and make a power play.
-
Michael comes in to rescue Alex, turns on Percy and gets tricked by a rigged gun. Percy had been suspecting him. Michael is taken prisoner.
-
Nikita gives a black box to the CIA to decrypt. Then we find out that is all part of Percy’s plan, he manipulated Michael and Nikita to give them the black box, which is a Trojan horse with a nerve agent aimed at the CIA director.
-
Nikita walks in to CIA headquarters to try to alert them. She manages to avert the attack just in time, but not before 3 agents are dead (Division sleeper involved), and she is taken into custody.
-
CIA Director wants answers but Nikita doesn’t think it will work to talk. Her CIA buddy breaks her out, so he will probably end up in prison. “I’ll be waiting for you to rescue me.”
-
Michael subverts Birchoff enough that Birchoff sets him free and decrypts a real black box before Michael escapes.
-
Amanda converses with Alex, fries the kill chip, then sets her free and tells her not to go back to Nikita.
-
Alex ends up at Nikita’s loft “to get her documents” and runs into Nikita, who is rigging the place before departing for good. They have a chat that gets interrupted by a strike team. Ends up with Nikita and Alex parting ways, building in flames and strike team dead.
-
Nikita meets up with Michael and the two of them have a decrypted black box. Their mission is to try to set everything on the box right - get innocent people out of jail, get the guilty caught, etc. On the run from Division and probably the CIA as well.
-
Alex ends up caught by Oversight, the cladestine group that set up Division in the first place that Percy is trying to manipulate. They want to turn Alex into their tool - and Amanda is in with them!
-
Percy’s power grab failed, Nikita and Michael and Alex are out of his hands, his black box info is with Nikita. He’s not having a good day.
-
Oh yeah, Roan got a face full of acid from Nikita and now looks like Two-face.
Big dramatic changes.
Now for the nits.
A) When Roan shows up to clean Jaden, he injects her corpse with a “muscle relaxant” that is supposed to make the body easier to fold and handle so he can cut it up and dissolve it with acid. Except injecting a corpse will not do any good, because the blood is not getting pumped through the body any more. It’s pooling and coagulating. Doh!
B) This is an important plot point, because it gets used by Alex to save Nikita. One of the side effects of the muscle relaxants is that it causes any toxins in the body to be released through the pores. Again, not something a corpse can do very well. Alex is wired and can’t warn Nikita, but sneaks a tetrodotoxin needle. She surprises and shoots Nikita, then drops the camera and hits her with the poison. Nikita seems dead when Roan arrives. He injects her with the muscle relaxant, which causes the poison to leave Nikita’s system, and Nikita is able to get the drop on Roan with the bottle of acid. But that whole plan revolves on the muscle relaxant being distributed through the body by an injection into the bloodstream - of a corpse. Yeah, Nikita was really alive, but the principle depended upon it working in a dead body.
C) Nikita at the CIA was just a bit too comical, she’s ducking in a cubicle and a security guard is walking by, she trips him and knocks him out to steal his radio and nobody else in the office space notices. It’s a large cubicle farm, not a small office or secluded hallway.
Also, can I say that I called the “Amanda working with Oversight to change Division”? I know no one will believe me, but I had this whole alternate plot worked out in my head that had Amanda helping Michael and Nikita. Not where they are going on the show, but the motivation is the same.
Also, big callout to the Oversight group - the Senator is the actress who played Madelaine on La Femme Nikita.
