I think they are going to announce it either in November…which would be strange considering it isn’t out for holidays, or they will drop its announcement in January.
Some predictions I have:
Price: $399
Name: Super Switch, a throwback to Super Nintendo
Backwards Compatibility to Switch?: Yes
4K resolution when docked?: Yes
Launch game: Metroid Prime 4, also being released for original Switch since they committed to it.
Look: Will be a Switch 2, meaning it will look very similar to Switch, just upgraded.
Cartridge slot for new games?: Yes, it will do downloaded games, but will still have physical releases.
I bet it is more powerful the the PS4 Pro, but less than the PS5. Still, I bet the plan is that it can compete with PS5 for a few years, so it should be good enough to run games like new PS5 ones. Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t come out for it, though, at least not upon initial release. I just bet Rockstar doesn’t have time to make it for Switch 2.
I’m excited. I plan to pre-order and buy it day of release if possible. I’ve never owned a console day of release(or even close) and I ended up loving the Switch so much, I promised my kids we would get the new one immediately.
Thoughts? Predictions?
Some alleged leaks are out there, but I don’t what to make of them or if they are true. I think I heard 12GB of memory, which seems…low?
I didn’t think there’s any chance it’s more powerful than a PS4, let alone Pro. And I don’t think that’s a necessarily a bad thing, it doesn’t need to be.
It’ll have a Mario game at launch, probably an Odyssey-type follow up.
To be honest, I saw the port of Hogwarts Legacy to Switch and I think they owe a free upgrade to everyone who bought the Switch version. It was clearly too much for the Switch and the port was pathetic compared to PS4 and other systems.
Features isn’t the issue. It was extremely poorly ported and had terrible graphics. Even compared to Tears of the Kingdom or some other games, it was atrocious.
I played on PC and my PC is not the latest stuff and it looked way better
Switch 2 has been officially announced with a Nintendo Direct on April 2. It will be mostly backwards compatible with Switch games. The launch will occur in 2025 but no release date yet.
I guess there is time for more predictions before the April 2 Direct but it looks mostly the same but some revamped screen and controllers.
I’m guess it will be complete backwards compatible but they’re just covering their ass. Hopefully controllers will be backwards compatible in docked mode. I don’t want to buy another pro controller.
The JoyCon2 or whatever they are called now, attach differently. You might be able to sync the original JoyCons but you won’t be able to attach them. Structurally the controllers look the same so maybe pro controllers will still be 100% compatible.
The “mostly” backwards compatible probably refers to things like Ring Fit and Labo that depend on the physical components that have been changed. From what I understand the system itself is architecturally similar so compatibility should work well.
It looks like the joycons have a standard computer mouse sensor, which could be a really useful feature. The natural way of holding the right joycon seems like a mouse mode would work - hopefully the ergonomics are decent.
Since I use the pro controller exclusively and always play with it attached to a television (never play on the portable screen) I would love for them to come out with a bare bones model. Basically a processor with a game chip port and an HDMI port. One can dream.
It would be nice to even see a brief teaser of it like they did with Breath of the Wild just to get a sample of the direction they would take it graphics wise. Stick with the surreal almost cartoon look or a move towards realistic.
Looks like Nintendo is leading the charge on the next generation of price hikes. Digital copies (of some games) will be 80 bucks and physical will be 90. There’s no good reporting yet, but there’s precious little good reporting anywhere, especially in video game journalism. Here’s a bad article.
