What ever happened to the pork flavored ones? They always seemed like decent sellers unlike shrimp picante ot teriyaki chicken.
What’s your location? Last time I was at the Costco here in Santa Cruz, I could have sworn I saw a ton of pork/beef/chicken/shrimp combos. Or maybe that was at a Costco in San Jose… hmmmm. Well either way, I know they still exist. Maybe your area just has a shortage. = )
Pork is the most popular, so it sells out first. :smack:
There is no pork flavor to be found on the product page of their website. I emailed them to ask; if I hear back I’ll post the response here.
Interesting. The current flavors available over here (Japanese company site with some weird-ass animation) are:
Original (beef with egg and onion)
Curry
Seafood
Salt (that’s it, just salt. At least, that’s what the name of it is. I ain’t trying it)
Chili Tomato (good one)
Cheese Curry
Kimchi
Italian (seafood & tomato)
Well crap, don’t I feel stupid… I guess I was thinking of the other brand that makes a cup o noodles…
It’s also Cup Noodles. There’s no O.
The OP may be confusing it with Lipton Cup O’ Soup. But, I don’t think they ever had a pork flavor, either. I’m almost certain that Nissin did, though.
Well, I finally heard back from them today; after over four months I’d completely forgotten. The reply I received is as follows:
More evidence that the terrorists may be working in other way these days.
I’ve noticed not seeing pork ramen at my grocery lately.
People haven’t been buying enough pork ramen? Cane them.
I still see pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, and oriental flavored ones all the time. I’m just not sure if they are Nissin or not.
I’ve always wondered, what exactly constitutes “Oriental” flavor?
Made with real, dehydrated Orientals?
what? Okay, I’m going!
It’s so sour your face goes Oriental for a while!
(For the life of me, no idea. The supermaket here has an aisle that consists exclusively of noodles. No oriental flavor, AFAIK.)
I have some Nissin oriental flavor Top Ramen noodles here. The main ingredient listed for the flavoring (after salt) is soy sauce powder. Hence, I suppose, the oriental description.
It’s a nice switch from chicken (I’m not a fan of beef or shrimp).
Maruchan seems to be the other big ramen noodle brand in non-Asian supermarkets around here, and I don’t remember if they have a pork flavor or not. I know Thrifty Maid, the cheap store brand for Winn-Dixie, a Florida-based supermarket chain (currently in financial dire straits) has always offered a pork flavor of ramen, though.
It’s all in the marketing. You want popular? Change it from ‘pork flavor’ to ‘bacon flavor’ and watch sales take off.
Though bacon is made from pork, it really does not have the same flavour, so they could have “bacon-flavoured” noodles, but not with the same taste as “pork-flavoured” noodles.
