I think Carl would have been less interested in Earl “doing the right thing” if Earl was living on his own. Less taking the moral high ground, and more “get the hell off my couch”, in my opinion.
I was thinking that Earl took a wedding vow, and Carl was basically telling him to man up and live up to his commitment, but then I couldn’t remember if Earl and Joy actually got married. I know she married Crabman, but did she marry Earl at any point?
Yes, they drove to Vegas and got married the night they met. When he woke up the next morning, massively hungover, he realized he’d married a woman who was about five or six months pregnant. He had just thought she was a little pudgy the night before.
She served him with divorce papers when he was in the hospital after he got hit by the car, just after he got (and lost) the winning lottery ticket. He was all loopy on drugs and was more than willing to sign whatever she put in front of him.
Of course, the funny part is, she didn’t know he’d won the lottery when she served him with divorce papers. There were a couple of episodes where she tried to bully him into giving her some money, but she finally backed off.
Yeah, that was a pretty brutal scene. It’s a bit mind-boggling to think Joy would think it’s porn.
That’s right, I do remember that now.
No more mind-boggling than many other things we’ve learned about the inimitable Joy, my friend. She’s in a class all by herself.
