As of yesterday or maybe the day before, the little number that indicates how many notifications I have. It would appear on my avatar on the top right corner of the screen.
Also, the tab in the browser is also not showing a (1) or (2) or whatever. I don’t think I’ve changed anything on my side. This is in Brave or Chrome, and I’m using the Discourse-classic theme. Computers are either PCs or Chromebooks.
Click your avatar next to the mag. glass and 3 line menu. Click the profile button at the bottom.
The dropdown has an option to pause notifications, you can see if it’s off or on.
It was not on. I just turned it on and off, because sometimes that resets stuff.

It’s one of the highlights of my day. Logging into SDMB and seeing that affirming blue dot. Verification that somebody out there, admitting all but virtually unknown, has acknowledged mine own ill-begotten existence. And now you tell me some are aggrieved that there isn’t visual confirmation that multiple posters are responding? Gawd, the sense of inadequacy is overwhelming. 
Definitely overwhelming sense of inadequacies.
Unless the number is too high. (and yellow on mine). Then I worry “What did I say?”
