No Man's Sky - First star to the right, and straight on till morning

One thing that I have trouble with in photo mode is capturing sense of scale.

Here’s a mountain I found today. That’s me at the bottom right. So I of course climbed it.

Here’s a view from the top. It’s so high that everything just dissolves into clouds, though it’s actually quite pleasant up there. Cresting the peak to find a contained little glade was really cool.

Really impressive terrain features like this seem to be rare. Whatever algorithm NMS uses apparently skews towards flattening things out.

Considering the issues No Man’s Sky had, and the non-existence of anything other than issues that Star Citizen has had, I was amused today to see an email soliciting crowdfunding for Starflight 3. This is quite an environment hyping to be another space game that, if I recall correctly, has been in development since the last millennium :dubious:

Oh well I’ll listen to the pitch, the original was damn good

Not sure if it belongs in thread, but I figured this audience would be more likely to be interested, whereas a new thread might look like I was promoting crowdfinding something I don’t know, or care, shit about.

(No not really, I’m just kidding!!! :D)

I had to stop playing- I hit a gamebreaking bug. My armorer wanted me to kill eight sentinels, and they were right outside my base. Well, I stepped out, started shooting them… and as soon as they couldn’t see me (because I either stepped behind my base or behind a rock… or, heck, just killed off a wave), the counter would reset to zero.

But they’d still be pissed off at me, and keep sending tougher and tougher sentinels. So now I’ve got a walker parked right outside my base.

Apparently this is a bug that’s been around for at least a year, and nobody’s found a real solution for it.

See above - any planetary sentinels will do, so long as the timer doesn’t reset - so go to a manufacturing facility and fight the ones there.

Turns out that there’s more than one of these natural racetracks. Drove a complete circuit on one, didn’t time it but had to refuel the Nomad three times.

Pity. The start/finish for that track would have been right in the middle of a crashed freighter.

Man, this place looks even more alien now!

That place looks evil. Bloody sky and monochrome ground.

Weather is eerily calm here. 16°C daytime, 11.3° night, 0.3 rad, 3.1 tox. No sign of the radioactive fog from when I first landed a month ago, or any other storms.

I found an ocean planet, the only land is Tony islands. Pretty boring, very few resources. But the weather is listed as “refreshing breeze”.

Hey, quads no longer have red dots!

Fixed in the last update, unfortunately along with my favorite bug: your crew no longer change race to match the system you’re in!

Does anyone know if it’s possible to kill a sentinel mothership? I assume this is how you get the mods for your capital ship, but all I can ever do is take out all the guns then it just sits there. I don’t see any attack point or anything so no idea what I’m supposed to do next.

Sentinels have motherships? Eeesh. I only just figured out how to kill the walkers without getting the crap kicked out of me.

All I need to do is scan 1 more animal and I’ll be 10/10 in all the milestones. I think the game knows this. It’s been days of just looking for that last animal on 1 planet and it may be driving me insane.

I should probably try a different planet. I think milestone 7 or 8 I got within thirty seconds of landing, where all 6 of the animals on that planet were right there when I landed. But, like a gambler thinking their slot machine is ‘due’, I just can’t shake the feeling that it’ll be there the next time I bring up my scanner.

Yeah, the space battles work much like the planet side ones, with 5 tiers of attack. In space, the final tier is fighters, heavy fighters and a mothership that is just like your capital ship.

You should definitely leave the planet…you’ll find creatures all over. You can even get quests at the guild station on any of the local space stations (or on your capital ship) that will give you various things for scanning animals or whatever.

And they stack!

I did, and found all 6 animals on another planet in about five minutes.

I’m going to pretend that the animal that I didn’t scan was a white whale in the deepest part of the planet’s ocean, the only one of his kind.

Later I happened to be standing on a trade platform when a decent Exotic S-type landed next to me. After upgrading shields and guns I went into space and picked a fight with some sentinel ships.

No real problem with the fighters, and I got the mothership to show up, but it disappeared two seconds later. My wanted level dropped from five to one for no apparent reason as well. Kind of seemed like a bug.

They do, though sometimes it bugs a quest. I recently got a guild quest for killing 9 monstrosities (one of my favorite quest types since it’s almost always for nanites) and one to kill 10 from the capital ship. Only one of the quests would trigger though on arrival, and then I couldn’t do the other one no matter what I did. I reloaded and did them one at a time (along with another general quest to just kill 30 creatures of any type…monstrosities work fine for that one) and everything worked perfectly.

Definitely sounds like it was bugged for some reason. Usually the mother ship just sits there. If you come into range it opens up on you, so you want to stay just out of range and kill the fighter escorts first. Then you can target each of the gun turrets. Then…well, no idea. I haven’t figured out what to do next. Flying away makes it disappear and you get another round of fighters and escorts. I figured that, like the walker, there has to be a way to finish it off, and I’m speculating that this is how you get upgrades for your capital ship. At least I haven’t been able to get any so far, and I’ve found most everything else (killing the fighters and escorts and taking their barrels gives you upgrades for the frigates which are pretty handy, even though I have the recipes to make the stuff anyway).

I’m nearly to the point where I’m going to start hunting better S-class multitools and S-class ships (I have 4 S-class ships and my mothership is a very cool looking A-class…but my multi-tool is still a B-class). I think I have one more in the Atlas chain, and one more glyph and I’ve got a link to the coordinate translation calculator plus there are a ton of YouTubers who have posted coordinates to good places to find ships, capital ships and multi-tools. I’ve also got money finally…been building status chambers and the fusion thingy that gets you a cool $15 million a pop.

Yay, I finally found an S-class alien Multitool. It wasn’t a great one, only 16 slot, but that stats are pretty good, even if not in the range of some of the ones I’ve seen on the webs.
