NO! No no no no! Nooooooo! Mine! (I'm Two Years Old Now) *or* Long and Listy

I knew I liked you for some reason - we have WAAAAYY too much in common.

Book matches: 25 including Superheroes and Buddy Holly…
Music matches 21 - tho I’m more fond of Jimmy’s version of “Brown Eyed Girl”.

BTW: am gonna have to beg off next weekend in Dayton - saving our pennies for Disney in May :frowning:

Let’s see…I’ve read a couple of the books on the list, heard a couple of the songs, even heard about a couple of the books and songs on both lists tho I still don’t know what they are. I have a couple of bendy pictures but I just know you don’t want to see bendy bears Rue. Course if you did, you could just go down to yer basement. I bet a couple of the basement bears are bendy. Happy second dopeday! Maybe I should sing Happy Dopeday.

<ahem> clearing throat <ahem>

HAAAAPY DOPEDAAAAY TOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAAPY DOPEDAAAAY TOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAAPY DOPEDAAAAY DEEEEAAAARRRR RUUUUUUE!!!
HAAAAPY DOPEDAAAAY TOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

I’m thinking it may be time to start a “Let’s buy swampbear some singing lessons” thread, but I fear that would only encourage him.

Hey, Rue, how about a list of the magazines you subscribe to? Just one more peek into the mind of Rue!

hhhhmmm, six of the books listed. although i think calvin and hobbes should count for more than one. no music matches. not into the folk scene huh?

at least i have the luck of the irish/chinese.

i think i have some bendys around here.

oh luck, something shiney.

i’ll tell me ma when i get home
the boys won’t leave the girls alone
they pulled my hair, they stole my comb
but i’m alright when i get home

me aunty jane
she took me in
she gave me sweets
from her wee tin
butter balls and some pop
and some wee buns with sugar on top

she is handsome, she is pretty
she is the belle of belfast city
she is courting
1, 2, 3
tell me won’t you
who is she.
RUE!
you’ve stuck that in my head now!
we used to sing that in the playground of school as a skipping song.

(it’s a version of “i’ll tell me ma” from my childhood)

happy 2nd dopeday!

i love your choices.

Rue - Thanks for your post. I’m with you on most of the books, although I’ve only actually read about a dozen of them, and most of those were Robert A. Heinlein. It’s great to know that someone else has a strong appreciation for Heinlein, Philip K. Dick, and Calvin & Hobbes in common. I’ve always found most newspager comics to be a waste of time with the serious exception of Bizarro, Doonesbury, occasionally the Far Side, and most importantly, Calvin (which in my book is the best comic ever). Did you know that you can sign up at Ucomics.com and they will email you a daily Calvin strip from 11 years ago the same date. They’re more wonderful than ever. Looking at the songlist, I’d find about 14 of them in my collection too. I’d like to offer four of Scotland’s finest to complement your Van Morrison fixation: Del Amitri, Texas, Dougie MacLean, and the Average White Band. Cheers.

Del Amitri, check. Texas, check. Got one of each Watcher. Do you get “Zits” in your paper? It’s funny, in a teenager sort of way. The guy who draws it lives a couple of blocks away from my sister (that would be the award-winning Jim Borgman) not that they’ve ever met. The guy who writes it lives way far away. California I think.

That version is a little different from the one I heard irishgirl. More than one version of a traditional song? Weird.

Just because I didn’t list folk doesn’t mean I ain’t hip to the jive rock (st. chair). (Trout Fishing in America is folky, by the way. They are also a “kid band”, but still way-cool.)

Are The Indigo Girls folk? Or folk-rock?
Christine Lavin, Carrie Newcomer (yay!), James Taylor… I gots a little of it around here somewhere.

And shiney, goooood…

The magazine list is pretty short Snickers. I get National Geographics and Backpacker. I used to get Readers Digest when they gave the folks a buy one- get one free offer for subscribing since mamoths roamed the tundra, but that stopped coming about three months before I noticed it wasn’t showing up anymore. I also used to get Entertainment Weekly as a gift for not having cash one time at Media Play when I wanted to buy a CD. When they wanted me to actually give them money for it I said “no thanks”.

The Little Woman gets a couple of magazines. Progeny or something. One of those child developement magazines. And I think she gets a cooking mag.

We’re just not big on periodicals.

Thanks for singing Swampy. Now I’m all shivery. I’m not sure if it’s because of the song, or the threat of bendy pictures. Either way, stop it.

Yeah, Jimmy’s version of “Brown Eyed Girl” is pretty good Poli. It’s just, you know, it’s Van’s song. I’m a traditionalist sometimes.

Too bad I won’t be seeing you this weekend, but there’s more stuff coming up this spring. Just a warning.

Hi Nocturne! It’s always nice to see you. (Even if you weren’t talking to me anyway…)

You be you if you want Steve. Or you could dream of greatness…

Just a thought.

Are you just too cute Skerri? Being all innocent and stuff. Makes me just want to pinch your cheeks and pat your head. (The cheeks right by your mouth was what I was thinking, but I can compromise if you want.)
-Rue.

Happy two-year anniversary, Rue. Nice to see a class act still around and brightening up th’ boards.

From another two-year doper (only mine was last month, so there. :p)

Have a good year, mate.
