Yeah, but in all fairness to Pbear, I didn’t search under “Jason Alexander”–I didn’t want to see a ready-made debunking, I was curious to see what would happen if you just put in “snuff mpeg”. So now we know–it’s “Amsterdamporno time!”
I have viewed the film and I believe it’s a fake. My reasons for thinking so:
The “blood” is way too thick and opaque for real blood. I used to be a butcher’s assitant and it don’t look like blood to me.
There’s too much of it, the blood that is. And it doesn’t seem to contain any bone or brain fragments. If you’ve seen the Zapruder film of the Kennedy assassination, you may recall that the fatal shot caused a cloud of blood and tissue to spray into the air. Also the force of the blood, brain and bone being pushed out of his head caused it to rock backwards even though the bullet entered the back of his head. The same thing should have happened here, the girl’s head should have been pushed forward towards the entry wound.
The gun is pointed at girls head at an angle going from left to right across the screen yet, the splatter appears directly behind her head.
A couple of things about the wall behind the girl.
The blinds are at least partly open. Would you really want to commit a murder in front of an even partly open window?
There are streaks on the wall behind the girl. One is to her right and one is directly behind and above her head. They look like trial runs of the blood delivery system that have been cleaned up to me.
Here I’ll disagree with Duck Duck Goose on a couple of points.
I believe this is a real gun being shown, though loaded with blanks. The spot that appears on the girl’s head comes, I think, from the wad that takes the place of the bullet in a blank cartridge. I’m geussing that being hit with it stung mightily and she probably had a few choice words about it after the camera stops.
I don’t think it was a paintball gun being fired past her head that makes the splatter. I think there was a device mounted behind the chair (might have been a paintball gun though) that was where the projectile came from.

I agree it’s probably a real gun and not a paintball gun, as the blood blast is far too large for a paintball gun. However, I doubt it’s a full blank, either. Some of you folks may recall an incident that happened when I was in high school. There was a TV show about spies masquerading as supermodels (yes, this was a real show I can’t recall the name of; also starred what’s her name, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman). The show suffered an abrupt ending when the male star killed himself in a game of Russian roulette, using blanks because he thought that would be safe. Blanks actually do give a blast of hot gas from the cartridge, which at point blank can be fatal. Also, the Alexander Jason link shows how the spot on the head doesn’t move when the head moves.
Not quite what happened. The show was Cover Up and starred Jennifer O’Neal, not Jane Seymour. The guy who shot himself was Jon-Erik Hexum and he was replaced with Antony Hamilton (who died in 1995. This show was obviously unlucky for the male leads). During a delay in filming, he jokingly shot himself with the gun with blanks, which blew a bit of his skull into his brain.
I remember watching it when I was young, and you’ve no idea how long it took me to find out those details since I couldn’t remember the name of the show, or any of the actors, and I only had your “Dr Quinn” to go on!

Oops. Thanks for filling in the details. I was unsure on the female lead - thought I remembered, but got that wrong. And couldn’t remember the show name or actors names. I did recall that they replaced the male lead, but IIRC it did not last very long after that. As for how he shot himself, I recall at the time the story being he shot himself playing Russian roulette. If that was not the case, I can only chalk it up to pop-culture rumors of the time.
Anyway, the essence of the point stands - blanks are dangerous, and she would not want to be shot by a blank at point blank range.

For a lifetime of meritorious achievement(acomplished in one evening), we award you the DDG Golden Google. She would be proud of you.
Seriously, you had more perseverance than I.
Ahh…I feel guilty now. I omitted to mention one detail, simply to avoid embarrassment…I had also remembered that the theme song was “Holding out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler.
Now that I’ve confessed to knowing a Bonnie Tyler song, I can only hope my reputation hasn’t been totally destroyed…
Only if you also confess that you liked the show…
“I remember watching it when I was young”
1984?
sigh
crawls back into rocking chair
Apparently I liked the show, as I also watched it “when I was young”. And that’s a fun song.
“when I was young” is hearbye banned as an acceptable phrase on the board.
Unless you’re truly old.
That means, you watched Jack Webb and Harry Morgan in Dragnet.
It does NOT apply to watching tv shows in the 80’s.
Younguns.
I don’t want to make Dylan_73 feel bad, but I gotta brag a little. While I didn’t care enough about this question to try to find the answer (at the time), I did remember the event well enough to know that “russian roulette” was a dead end. So tonight I googled for the facts I had: STAR, SHOT, HEAD, BLANKS.
#1 hit: a National Enquirer article on the death of Jon-Erik Hexum.
Damn, I’m good.
