Nobody's talking about Fairplay's broken face?

Huh. I expected more from SDMB’s Survivor fans.
Karma’s a bitch.

I heard about it the morning after it happened on Adam Corolla’s morning show, which is co-hosted by Danny Bonaduce. (Incidentally it’s a little weird listening to a show broadcast from my old stomping grounds while I’m 1,200 miles north. My coworker wondered why I laughed at the mention of Huell Howser.) There are two sides to every story, but I’ve only heard Bonaduce’s. So my view is that Jonny Fairplay was goofing around (I know people who do things like that), only he failed to consider that A) Danny was prehaps a bit drunk, Danny is someone who is into martial arts, and Danny doesn’t like him…

Okay, now that I’ve clicked on your link and have finally seen what happened it’s clear to me that JF is an idiot.

I blame it all on JF. If the idiot didn’t jump up on Danny he would not have gotten his ass tossed and his face smashed.

He got what he deserved.

I am against violence of any kind-- except for when it pleases me. I think Johnny should have been face planted when he shit on his reality TV cohorts bed because he didn’t like her.

Johnny is pressing charges. IANAL but aren’t you within your rights to get a person who jumps on you off of you? Or does the law say you must lay them gently down on the ground?

Maybe it’s just that I hold The Partridge Family in higher regard than I do reality TV, but that video is just about the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Fairplay totally had it coming.

I absolutely love Bonaduce’s little shrug after he tosses Fairplay.

Wow, I hadn’t heard about this at all. But it is oh so sweet now that I’ve seen it.

Danny Bonaduce is my hero on this day.

What is the context there? All I can see is JF jumping on DB and getting tossed off. Did he breaks something? What prompted the whole thing? What show was this? I’m confused.

I heard Bonaduce on an interview say something like “Given my past problems, I’d normally be terrified of an assault charge. But I’m sure once the cops actually see the tape, they’ll be laughing at Fairplay.”

Bonaduce Under Investigation After Awards Fight

That is not the way it looked on the video tape.
Here’s Jonny’s version of the “fight”.

Doesn’t Faceplant know that there were cameras there?

Am I supposed to know who Fairplay is?

Oh…Survivor? I’m out of the loop, clearly. I thought this was some spin off of Coldplay.

Yes. When you get to the Pearly Gates there will be Pop Culture/Useless Information Quiz before you are allowed to enter.

I think it was pretty clear from the video that Bonaduce didn’t “assault” the twit. Danny came up to the podium to clear it up for Faceplant (heh heh) that the audience was indeed booing at him, then walked to the rear of the stage. Then the twit ran back toward Danny and jumped up on him face to face with his legs spread to either side and his thighs resting on Danny’s forearms. Then Faceplant started making humping motions. It was kinda gross looking… So Danny tossed him backwards over his head and the twit hit the ground with his face. My thoughts are that if you jump on someone without clearing it first you deserve anything you get. Personally, I probably would’ve kicked him in the ass after he hit the floor, but I guess I’m less restrained than Danny Bonaduce–which is a frightening thought!

Shoot, Danny never even dropped his jacket–that ain’t a brawl!

How many people were in that audience? Ten? Fifteen? Pretty impressive. Of course, that’s probably more than were watching at home, so bravo.

I hate to suggest any sympathy for JF, but am I the only one who thought the clip showed DB using a little more force than necessary to get JF off of him?

While DB certainly was within his rights to get JF off of him, I’m not sure he was permitted to do so in a manner that completely disregarded the possibility of injury to JF. Looked to me like DB literally launched JF over his head. As opposed to the option of pushing him off backwards such that he landed on his butt.

And the fact of the matter is JF’s leap caused no apparent injury to DB, but DB’s launching of JF resulted in JF landing on his face. Looked pretty painful to me. Was DB in any fear for his safety? And it seems to me reasonably foreseeable that if I fling someone over my shoulder, that they might be injured.

Make no mistake - JF is a worthless asshole. But in terms of liability, it looks to me as tho he may have a case.

Bonaduce apparently works out every day, and has very good upper body strength. He said on the air he Jonny Faceplant is lighter than he thought he was.

JF’s legs were on top of DB’s forearms and wrapped around his body. So DB would have had to have gotten his arms out from under JF and then gotten them past the wrap-around and then up to JF’s chest. The natural reaction, especially for someone who lifts weights, would be to take the path of least resistance and push him upward.

It doesn’t matter that DB was not injured. He reacted while the ‘attack’ was in progress. Or must one wait until an assailant injures him until he is allowed to defend himself? And even though DB is more than a match for JF, he was just walking off the stage. He was attacked suddenly and without provocation. He was perfectly justified in using force to stop the assault. (And if JF was simulating sex – he calls ihis ‘patented Monkey Hump’ – then JF committed sexual assault on DB.)

I don’t think that’s a reasonable assumption. I would think that if you launch someone backwards there is a good possibility of a fractured coccyx, fractured wrists, and/or whiplash. I would expect that a person launched forward would put out his hands to break his fall and would not have a reasonable suspicion that he would land on his face.

In terms of criminal charges - no way. Either Fairplay was assaulting Bonaduce, and Bonaduce defended himself, or they both knew it was a joke and Fairplay just got hurt because he’s too stupid to put his hands in front of him.

But I’m sure there will be a civil suit against Bonaduce and Fox, and assuming it isn’t settled out of court, I’m sure it will provide great entertainment on Court TV.

Carolla just announced that the DA has dropped all charges against Bonaduce. Assplay will undoubtedly file a lawsuit against Bonaduce. Yul, the winner of Survivor:Cook Islands (and a Yale-educated lawyer), called in to Carolla’s show yesterday, voice dripping with distain for Assplay, and said not only did Assplay have no chance of winning said lawsuit, Bonaduce had every right to file a countersuit, and could’ve file charges of assault and sexual assault against him. I’m no fan of Danny, but I loathe Assplay enough to be very grateful to him for giving my very favorite Youtube clip in a very long time.

Yeah, I guess I was thinking in terms of civil liability rather than criminal. Sorry for any confusion caused my MY confusion.

And I didn’t mean to say anything about the likelihood of JF recovering. Just offering my opinion that the video suggested that JF would have a claim that wouldn’t get immediately tossed out.

They’re both complete dicks, and I wouldn’t mind watching a video of somebody taking a bat to the both of them.

Reality awards show? Really?

Not knowing who Johnny Fairplay is at all, I would say that Bonaduce did nothing particularly wrong.
