What the hell did he do in 2008? If you put him on the list you have to put Pierre Trudeau in the #1 position with Brian Mulroney and Jean Cretien in jockeying for #2 and #3.
I am proud to say I have never actually heard anything by Nickelback. And I am unanimous in that, as Mrs. Slocombe used to say.
Kroeger lives down the road from me and is possibly the rudest creep I’ve ever come across - I went into the post office to get my mail a couple of years ago and stood waiting to get at the lock boxes while he took the mail out of his mailbox, very very slowly. I had no clue who he was, at the time, just some long-haired galoot, as far as I knew. He said he thought I was “standing too close” and made some comment about being entitled to privacy.
I thought he was a nut case, to be honest. But the post mistress set me straight and told me I’d just had a brush with a Very Famous Guy. A Rock God.
So, yes, he belongs on this list. Just cuz he was rude to me, that’s reason enough.

Well, in Klein’s case, the fallout from his premiership is still lingering today. Well, “lingering” isn’t quite the right word - “rampaging” might be more accurate.

Klein’s been running awful columns for awhile now; a few years back she crashed an event in Toronto (allegedly drunk) and accused some of the attendees of being supported of South African apartheid, which, of course, they were not. She is, predictably, a tiresome riffer on the “Israel Is Teh Evil” song. What makes her loathsome, though, is her endless shilling of her latest book, “Shock Doctrine,” a book rife with errors and misrepresentations meant to scare university students into - well, buying her books. She plays political cards to promote herself. Self-promotion is inherently loathsome, so it wins her a lot of points.
BTW, Ralph Klein’s an awful choice and won’t make the list. The person has to at least be in the news in 2008.

This American is chortling to himself at the thought of stereotypically squeaky-clean, or at worst just sort of feckless, Canadians managing to scrape up 50 well-known national personalities who would come anywhere near U.S. standards of “loathsome.”

Nope, we have a ton of serial,murderers in America. But the loathsome have to do a lot more damage to the nation or its reputation.Like Alex Trebek.
